Forums - Gaming Discussion - Has anybody's gaming habits changed with their age?

Hi, not posted a thread for a very long time.. :)

Was thinking how excellent last generation was for me buying a 360 in jan 2007 then a PS3 straight after ive never played games so much as during last generation it was simply suyperb. it had all the games you wanted and i remember clearly supporting Sony 1000% and pre ordering all of the latest games for me it was the best generation ever..had a massive collection at one point of 360 Ps3 Wii games

But nowadays im busy with my kids growing up with work etc ive turned 40..and simply dont have the time i used to..gone is the PS4 and PSP, still got an aged PS3 but dont use it might get preowned one later on

funnily enough im more of a PC gamer now but in a suprise purchase ive bought an Xbox One last week, both xbox one and pc are plugged into living room TV and its great

if anyone want to add me on xbox please do ive not properly played on xbox for a long time and will be looking for freinds from here, my Id across Xbox Steam Uplay Origin is Skeeuk

has anyones elses gaming habbits changed?

for me i think im more of a casual gamer now, i dont need to get every game day one. in fact the only game i will buy day one full price is COD infinite warfare legacy edition which is complete turnaround from last gen where i had to literally have every rpg in collection and buy all the latest titles etc

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

Stealth xbox one praise thread.

Ill add you there.

About my gaming habbits, nothing changed much. Was a playstation 1 and 2 owner when young, then as of 2008 i got me a gaming pc and there i stayed until i bought a 360 in 2011 and a ps3 in 2012 (yes that late). My atention then shifted to xbox and now i play on xbox one, using pc mostly for emulation / older games.

The only thing I would say truly shifted is my embrace of Western Gaming to Replace the decline of Eastern Gaming companies (I believe a user sums it up for me, basically Eastern Gaming was embracing Anime Cliche way too much).

I like both, but Western gaming embrace opened me up to buying a lot more games I would never try in the sixth generation, such as Bioshock, Mass Effect, Assassin Creed, etc.

I'm starting to notice a change. just turned 28, and i don't put in the hours like i use to. I'm either with my wife, out playing ball more, or on my computer mixing music and other projects (check my sig).

for example, I bought digimon cyber slueth day 1, and I'm still only at chapter 9. took me about 4 weeks to beat arkham knight, and I'm SLOWLY getting through wind waker.
I still love gaming, i prefer it over TV and movies by a large margin (unless its super hero related).

When I was 4-10, I would sometimes play up to 30 hours of games per week :P

I keep it under control now. At most 2 hours a day, usually less.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

All the time. Every few months to few years I probably go into a different phase.

Right now I'm barely playing games as I have other interests but I dug out my psp and have been playing emulated retro games and papillon, I have been playing the odd phone game, the odd multiplayer wii u game and on pc (despite having many unplayed steam games) the only game I've been playing is FTL which I keep going back to every few weeks.

At different points of my life I've been into retro games via emulators, single player pc FPSs, multiplayer FPS, PC MMOs, Nintendo games, Misc consoles, Misc handhelds, statagy games, point and click adventure games, Modding, indie games, AAA games, phone games, flipote studio....

I'm playing a lot more now than I was last generation, and also spending a noticeable amount more too. This is partially because I've breached adulthood and have a big boy job that allows me enough income to spend more on creature comforts.

One thing that I've realized is that I'm less active in the real world on my days off as far as social events goes, I don't go to the bar nearly as much and I smoke a lot more weed now lol. So yeah, priorities have definitely changed. They will change again here soon too.

There was a time when I was an RPG/Japanese game snob. I looked down on FPS games because everyone around me said they were for "teenagers trying to be mature" and such.

From there, I jumped to PC but my Packard Bell could only run MMOs. I spent years playing Ragnarok and WoW and a few others.

After that, I dropped out of MMOs. I tried Fallout 3 and absolutely loved it. I realized FPS games could be a blast, too.

Ultimately, I wouldn't say my taste has changed, just that it's grown. Some of the stuff I used to play, like brawlers and platformers, I really only played because they were a large part of the selection being offered. It's like picking the meat loaf at the cafeteria because the other choices are cabbage casserole and vegan pizza.

Yep, it's gotten worse lol. Every since I stopped drinking and going out every weekend, my gaming time has easily doubled. I guess it's a fair trade though, and I save more money.

When I was younger I was impressed by sex and gore in games. I remember playing Resident Evil 2 on N64 and marveling at the bloody carnage. That's changed over the years.

Around 2008 I started branching out to new games, genres, and developers. I caught up on a lot of old Sega, Sony, and Microsoft games.

Lately I've been trying to pull myself back in after overextending myself. I want to choose the games I play more carefully and maybe even focus on just one or two systems. When I was younger I had a narrow but deep knowledge of games. Now I have a broad but shallow knowledge. Maybe it's time to go back.
