Forums - Website Topics - A disturbing trend on VGChartz

Well on the first reply I am sure we could go back and forth. I could post a list of sites that do and you that does not. But many do. Most I would say.

Of gaming focused sites? I won't fight you on that, but can you list me like three examples of major sites that have non-gaming (or other entertainment media/tech) news on their front page? I'm just curious because I've personally never experienced it before.

I don't want to sound creepy, but I love you.

I do want to sound creepy. I love you too.

I'd say you are being too sensitive. The world is a depressing place, it is what it is. It's important to discuss these events anyways.

Can we get it off the front page at least?

I can filter it out of my hot topics, but every time I come to the site it's a bombardment of horrible depressing stories lining the sidebar, day in and day out. I come here to relax and talk about video games, not have misery and politics thrown in my face.

How about this; we restrict such topics to the Politics section, and make threads from this section not show up on the front page, just like threads in the NSFW section don't?

That would be perfect.  Keeping the front page hot topics games-only would make a lot of sense and even be more attractive to new users.

If you agree with Arlo, a good thing to do is to avoid participating in those threads.

I just realised we recently passed the 8 millionth post and nobody celebrated it. VGC used to be fun

Edit: it's a games list http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8000000

I hold on to my 5,000,000th post with pride!

Good idea. General discussion threads should really be about more light hearted.

Wish we could do that for the front page.

Worth asking Trucks if he can make that happen without it taking up too much of his time. I think the fact that it doesn't work for the front page was just an oversight the original site dev made when creating this version of VGC.

I'll see what I can do about it. So the idea would be that if you have Politics unchecked in the Hot Topics section they would show up as well on the front page, right?

Also TruckOSaurus, maybe since some people put news events in general off-topic in stead of politics, how hard would it be to introduce news as a sub heading.

I think it would be better to have an "opt in" approach to that kind of stuff. Mainly because I think it looks better for the site if a new comer comes in and only sees game/sales-related forums on the front page.

Once they join, if they want to see Off-Topic/Website Forums etc. on the front page, then they can just check them on the Hot Topics section to opt in.
