Forums - Movies & TV - Movies which were surprisingly good

Name a movie(or movies) that was much better than you thought it'd be.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Zootopia. After finding Frozen and Big Hero 6 pretty meh, I expected just a regular Disney movie but it became my favorite movie this year so far.

The Descent. I'm not a huge fan of horror movies, but this one was stellar!

Captain America: Winter Soldier is another one. I didn't expect much, but it ended up being the best movie in the MCU, imo.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Small Time Crooks

Fack ju Göhte

Guardians of the Galaxy trailer was awful. Then the movie came out.

“Simple minds have always confused great honesty with great rudeness.” - Sherlock Holmes, Elementary (2013).

"Did you guys expected some actual rational fact-based reasoning? ...you should already know I'm all about BS and fraudulence." - FunFan, VGchartz (2016)

How To Train Your Dragon. Commercials made it look like the most childish drivel ever. Got dragged to it and was blown away.

It's truly a gem. Even the sequel was good.

didn't expect it to be that well.

Sunshine. Never even heard of it before digging through a list of movies. VERY underrated.

About relatively recent movies:

- Cabin in Woods: Looked like a terrible horror cliche, it was the most refreshing movie of the genre in a long time.

- Zootopia: Looked like an average Dreamworks movie, it turned up to be on Pixar levels.

- Guardians of the Galaxy: Looked dumb, generic and ugly to me in trailers, it turned up to be an extremely fun film, perfect as a summer blockbuster to have a good time.

- Scott Pilgrim: Didn't knew about the comic, I thought it was an very stupid teenage movie followind the trend of freak teen movies, it was actually one of the smartest, most creative, unique and fun movies of the year.

- VHS: Looked like another horrible found footage film, like almost every one of them, but, while is not amazing, it was actually a very creative, scary and exciting film, the sequel was even better.

- La Vie d´Adele (Blue is the warmest color): I expected this to be good but I didn't expected it to be one of the best movies ever made. Pure cinema perfection.

Inside Out - I had no idea it was going to be that good or that mature.

Mean Girls - I don't remember it much now but it was surprisingly entertaining.

Princess Diaries - When I worked in a video store, we could watch what we wanted but it had to be PG. I played this quite often.

School of Rock - I love this movie. Had no idea that it would be so much fun. I played it on a loop at work all the time.
