Ocarina of Time easily. It's easy to cut that game into little pieces today and criticise this and that. But for its time that game was friggin' insane! It was big as fuck, it was stuffed with detail, it brought countless new gameplay mechanics which many games until this very day make use of. It was well ahead of its time and is worth playing even today. Actually, I just did that, got OoT 3D last month for the 3DS. Totally worth it. I played the original hundreds of hours and I was still able to sink another 50+ hours into that sucker.

Pure gold.

Soul Calibur is a good game, but how did it get a 98? It's not the best fighting game. Maybe it's because I've only played it in arcades, but I don't get the praise for it. Ocarina of Time is a better game than GTA IV(which I liked, because it didn't have the satire of the other GTA games), and Tony Hawk. I've never played any Skateboard games, and I can't see the fuss about them.

Ocarina of Time- My favorite game out of all those 4 and is not even a 9/10 game in my eyes. Fun game, but a way too overrated.

SoulCalibur- An enjoyable fighting game but I feel like the sequels, specially SC2 and SC3, are much better in almost every aspect.

GTAIV- Probably the most overrated game of all time if we use Metacritic. Even in 2008 this game wasn't anything special. Kinda boring if you ask me.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2- Never played it

Well, obviously in today's standards they are outdated, but in the context of their time they were very impressive.

I don't think so, Soul Calibur maybe, GTA IV, not at all.

According to your profile, you were only 8/9 years old when THPS2 dropped so, with all due respect, I don't think you can accurately have an opinion on it's impact. The same goes for Soul Calibur.

I was 20 years old and already online, discussing games. Both of those games deserved their scores at the time.

Around the Network

1.) OOT - Greatest 3d game ever.

2.) THPS2 - Greatest extreme sports title ever.

3.) SC - Very innovative 3d fighter.

4.) GTA4 - I wouldn't rank this anywhere near my top 20 but the OP asked me to rank these games so it has to be 4th. lol

GTA IV shouldn't even have a metacritic score of 50% in my opinion. The game just isn't fun in any way.

Why are people comparing these games to the games of today? That's like saying The Last of Us deserves a lower score because The Last of Us 3 will be a better game when it releases in 10 years.

I believe that people's issue with the scores are that they were inflated to begin with, not that they have become inflated over time.

A small remark:
All of the games except for GTA IV are based on a very small number of reviews (~20).
Most of the games that have a score of 97 have a lot more (60 - 80 reviews).

How in the world is Grand Theft Auto IV a 98 game?
