Forums - Gaming Discussion - Tekken series or Virtua Fighter series poll

Well Tekken 6 is almost about to be released according to hearing a ssj12 post. Anyway how will this compare to Virtua Fighter 5? I know the Tekken series has sold more world wide.

Highest seller in Tekken series:Tekken 3 sold around 7 million units.

Highest seller in Virtua Fighter series: Virtua Fighter 2 sold around 2 million units.

But what is your preference: Tekken series or Virtua Fighter series?

BTW: I have only played Tekkens 1,2 and 3. They were pretty good. I have Virtua Fighter 5 and the only game of VF I have played in the VF series. But I prefer the Virtua Fighter 5 game it looks good and the gameplay is great.

I never played any of these.

Tekken. It's my favorite after SSB.

VF is far too technical for me. I could never get good at the combos. Tekken, however, is the right mix between technicality and accessibility, imo. It's relatively easy to get into, but veterans will own your ass hard.

I don't know that I have a preferance, I think I like them both for different reasons. In my opinion they compliment each other perfectly.

Virtua Fighter for me...followed closely by dead or alive. Tekken isn't even close... But then again, i owned a saturn not a PS1

Both suck in my opinion.

If I had to choose i'd go Tekken for Tekken tag... which wasn't great but it was ok.

They're way too easy in the arcades and just tedious and lacking in a lot of strategy, just shallow games.

I'd rather play a Dragon Ball Z fighter or a 3-D Mortal combat. Not that 3-D mortal combat wasn't tedious. But at least it has Sub Zero and Scorpion.

BTW I wonder what Virtua Fighter 6 will be like when it comes out eventually, say next year. I will give Tekken 6 a go and see if it has changed much since the earlier games in the Tekken series.

Virtua Fighter 5.

As much as I love tekken (it's very accessible to newbies), VF is the deeper fighting experience. VF is one of the most balanced fighting games (After the introduction of eddie, it was confirmed that the Tekken series was broken) and there's actually a challenge in learning how to play properly (as opposed to the button mashing and single attack spamming that can get you through most tekken matches). My only issue with VF is that the learning curve is so steep, I don't have any real urges to start using another fighter because I'm so comfortable with the way my original choice plays and I don't want to have to waste hours upon hours getting good at another one.

Personally, if it was all fighters, my top 3 would be:

1) Super Smash Bros. (original and easily the best, if only because if you were good with a "crappy" character, you'd never lose to anybody using Fox or Kirby)
2) Jump Ultimate Stars (Alot of cheaters and cheapshots online, but who can say no to a game purely based on what if x and y fought scenarios with anime characters)
3) Street Fighter 2 or 3 (2 for the nostalgic factor but 3 was the best in series).
