Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nvidia Titan X announced (1200$, 12GB of GDDR5X memory, 11 teraflops)

Meh

They should've waited until HBM2 was ready and put 16GB of that in the gpu. The 170s are still barely available 1.5 month after release and they go and make another card.

There are so many odd things with this Titan card, starting with Nvidia using the same name as the last Titan again.

Then there's the specs:

Not only is Nvidia using the same GDDR5X of the 1080 instead of HBM 2.0, but it doesn't even have 50% more cores and the frequencies are much lower.

I'm not a fan of SLI/X-fire, but you'll get more performance buying two 1080 and SLI them, and for about the same money.

Is this any different from the last Titan X? People will wait for the 1080ti with the same power but less expensive.

Also I'm not sure why people are so crazy about HBM. GDDR5X is a good enough step up from GDDR5 and is absolutely sufficient for 4k.

People want HBM2.0 because if you spend $1,200 on the top of the range/fastest card in the world, you want to have all the high-end stuff. And HBM2.0 is exactly that.

As for the 1080Ti, I guess they still have room left for it: Titan X_3584 cores - 1080Ti_3072? cores - 1080_2560 cores. But what about the VRAM?

One of the selling points of the Titan cards has always been its huge amount of memory. The last time, the Titan X (2015) had twice the amount of VRAM than the 980Ti, and both had more than the 980. But this time around, the new Titan X "only" has 12GB on a 384-bit bus, and that creates a problem for the 1080Ti becuase, given that they'd share the same GP102 chip, it will either come with the same 12GB of VRAM, or with half that number, which would be quite strange given that this would be less than what the regular 1080 has.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

So you can get a RX 480 at 5.5 teraflops for 199$.

But if you want twice as much, it costs you 1200$ because... its nvidia?

To play devil's advocate, crossfire is far from perfect, but yes, nvidia's titan card is always overpriced. We'll see how overpriced it is once benchmarks come out.

It's weird.
I t compard with 1080.

Power 1.4times
Price 2.0times !!

Waiting for the gaming variant to show or not to show (ie. 1080Ti).

This will be Nvidia only, and judging by the low clock speed its geared towards Pro-sumer market like the others.

I have a feeling the 1080Ti will be faster and pack more cores. (like the 780Ti did over the Titan)

In the meantime i'm happy i kept my 980Ti FTW. It would be cheaper to SLI it than to even get a 1080 or Titan at this price gouging point.

PC I i7 3770K @4.5Ghz I 16GB 2400Mhz I GTX 980Ti FTW

I doubt the 1080ti will have more cores. It will probably have around 500 less cores but will be higher clocked, making it around as powerful as the Titan. Basically the same Titan X/980ti scenario.

11 Teraflops, far out. So more than 6 times as many raw flops as PS4. Yes, I know flops don't tell the whole story, but the sheer power gulf between consoles and PC is just enormous at this point.

That's a lot of cheddar, I think I'd be fine with a 1080 if I were to buy a high end graphics card.

Guess I'll be sticking with the original plan of going with a 1080 or two next year.
