Just a quick question for those who are all into politics--why do people use insults like "libtard" or whatever the silly alternative on the other side is? What's the point in looking childish when talking about stuff that's kind of important? They might as well say "u r dum lol" or something, it looks that cringe-worthy, yet I see it all the time. Maybe it's trolls, trying to convince smart people to choose the other side?

This is the same question I have. I mean, personally, all creditability of a an individual is lost when they can't make a constructive point without insulting others. I see this, "Republicunt", "Democrit", and plenty of other alternative nicknames. It's childish, it makes the arguments look about as serious as 2 kids fighting about which is better, Charizard or Blastoise XD

Politics is angry stuff so these nicknames serve to demonize whoever you're against. Insults and informative posts go hand in hand in politics, doesn't matter if it's a debate or if it's a circlejerk, it's like a tradition.

It's pretty dumb but what can you do?

Wait... you have entry fees to vote?

We aren't talking about general elections but party members voting for a Leader and to vote you need to be a paid up member , usually you have two party sections, the rank and file who make up the membership of the branches and the elected parliamentry members , for example in Australia new changes to the labor party now endorsment is done by a combination of votes taken from both the rank and file and the parliamentry members , this was done to give better representation to the rank and file and to help quell dissension.

I use it when I screw around. The cringe of it is what makes it funny to say. Words like feminazi, racist, librard, trump supporter, etc etc are all nothing but worthless insults thrown around everyday.

No offense, but just calling her retarded isn't really smart.

Sure, when I troll, I'll use dumb words like that. However, if I'm actually being serious, I'll offer an explanation and provide reasoning.

Perhaps you should do that. While I think it is dumb to lay 25 pounds just to vote, I think it's immature and childish to go and call her retarded

Okay, so as most UK users will know Jeremy Corbyn was elected as leader of the Labour party last year. This happened because Ed Milliband reduced the membership fee to £3 and once Jeremy Corbyn was on the ballot (due to recieving sympathy votes from his own MP's as they knew he couldnt win) many thousands of Conservative voters and hard-left loons joined just to vote for Corbyn. Conservatives did so because he's so left wing that he's totally unelectable and therefore with him as leader the Conservatives will be guaranteed victory in the next general election.

Anyway, fast forward to now and over 80% of the labour parliamentary party have stated they have no confidence in Corbyn as their leader and there's going to be a leadership election between Corbyn and Owen Smith. They've increased the membership fee to vote in it to £25 in order to keep the riff raff and piss-takers from voting. For the past few days I've been seeing lefties on twitter try and rally their comrades to join and vote for Corbyn and I remember thinking how stupid and delusional they were, because if Corbyn does win then Labour are guaranteed to get demolished at the next general election and there could perhaps even be a party split between the hard-left Corbyn folk and the 'Blairites'.

Welp...I've just found out that my own sister is one of them. She joined the Labour party today for the £25 fee just to vote for Corbyn.

I don't know what to say. I want to call her out but it's too cringeworthy and i'll just embarrass her and feel bad. In a way I'm glad because it means the Labour party is fucked, but I'm just so disappointed/ashamed that my sister is one of the dumbasses that's doing it. Can't believe I used to look up to her.

Just needed to get that off my chest.

Got news for you. If she's a Corbyn supporter she's not a liberal. Corbyn is a socialst and liberal =/= socialist. Blairites are closer to being liberal.

But now the title makes this thread look even worse.

She's a liberal, so what? Not like she's going to suddenly accuse everyone of rape and create a 500 foot personal safe space.

Im sure that even you have liberal viewpoints. No one is 100% non-liberal, while no one can be 100% liberal. A balance between both liberal and conservative viewpoints is what allows for a more open minded nature towards others.
