I had the backlog problem on the PS3. I'm doing much better on my PS4. I resist buying games until i actually have time to play them, no matter how cheap they currently are. I had to get it in my head that they'll be even cheaper, by the time i actually will play them.

Hi, I'm Mummelmann and I have a backlog problem. My Steam backlog alone is around 150 games, with another 55 or so on GOG, not to mention by 200+ titles for PC on disc. And then there are the 50 or so PS2 titles I never finished and 12-15 PS3 titles as well.
In short; my life is a hell.

150 backlogged Steam games!  You need to sit a few summer and winter sales out.

Man, I need to sit all of them out!

I just don't add games to my backloggery anymore. If I have more than 20 I start deleting some of them.

LOL

You're badass, mate.

I don't have a notable backlog, so I'll try to give you guys a few tips.

1. Raise your quality standards for games that you have yet to buy - The majority of the games that are deemed good aren't great, so you aren't missing out by skipping them. If you have a few years of gaming experience, you should already know which kinds of games you like best, so only in those genres you should go beyond the top-of-the-line games.

2. Raise your quality standards for games that you own, but have yet to play - This will help to clear your existing backlog faster. A lot of games do not age well, so even if you got around to them eventually, you would be wasting your time. Compile a list of your backlog games and then scratch everything that isn't exceptionally good.

3. Don't see it as your duty to finish games - This is once again a point about quality standards because that's what it really is all about. If you start a game and then don't like it, by all means just quit. When I read posts from, say, Veknoid_Outcast that are about how he is forcing himself through garbage like Puppeteer, I want to slap him because there needs some sense beat into him.

Ultimately, you'll end up buying and playing fewer games, but you'll enjoy the time more and save money. There's no reason why you should play every half-decent clone of concepts that have proved to work. Be more picky about what you play.

It took me years to realise that I needed to do that. I don't force myself to finish a game any more.

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

Hi. I'm DM, and I too have this problem. I bought Arkham Knight on the last PSN sale, but I still haven't finished Arkham Asylum. I now avoid RPGs, even though they used to be my favourite genre, because I know I will never finish them (although for some unknown reason I bought Witcher 3 anyway). I haven't finished any of the games on my Wii U, but I will probably buy the new Zelda anyway. I have a backlog to my backlog.

However, one day, when my kids are all grown up, and I am retired, I will be able to power on my PS3, and finally finish what I have started... Unless of course, I am still trying to catch Pokemon #1047 on Pokemon GO 2040.

heh once I upgraded to current gen, I decided that my PS3/360 backlog doesn't count anymore.

Instead, I now have a big Xbox One backlog including long games like Fallout 4, Divinity Original Sin (almost completed though), MGS V and Borderlands The Handsome Collection...

The backlogs here :O

I only have 12 games in my backlog (including games that I started to play but didn't finish because I got bored) and I already feel that it's too much...I'm actually trying to get rid of some of the games...does someone want to buy a copy of Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed II or Devil may cry 2 :P

I have a backlog in part because I want to support various titles, especially niche ones, but then find have limited time to play them. I still have games from this year in the wrapper because trying to beat others before I take them on. Meanwhile being tempted nearly every month to buy a new title or two. I need a hyperbolic time chamber...

I still have a DS/Wii backlog to play :(

Pffff, I don't have a problem. I only have *pulls open Word document to keep track of backlog* 156 games on backlog, if you don't count games I haven't touched in years that I will eventually replay. If I never acquire another game again, I can clear out that list by the time I'm 85.

Seriously, you guys need to get a grip.

I too skipped the DS in it's heyday, so I have to go back and acquire all the awesome RPGs and Castlevanias that I missed out on. And still have Wii games sitting on the shelf that I have yet to see the start menu of (created a thread about how excited I was that Pandor's Tower was coming to America four years ago, just now getting to the halfway point of it this past weekend).
