Forums - General Discussion - 6 police officers shot; 3 dead in Baton Rouge

(CNN)At least seven officers were injured and at least three of them are feared dead in a shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN.

Police received a call of "suspicious person walking down Airline Highway with an assault rifle," the source said. When police arrived, the man opened fire.

The remaining officers are hospitalized in critical condition, the source said.

Kip Holden, the mayor-president of East Baton Rouge Parish, said authorities were still trying to get a handle on the situation, but added, "The count is three officers dead possibly."

The victims may include police officers and sheriff's deputies.

"There is still an active scene. They are investigating," he said. "Right now we are trying to get our arms around everything."

The shooter is believed to be down as well, Holden said.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

Have more people been shot dead in terrorist related instances like this than in europe over the last 2 years? Genuine question.

Yeah but add up the massive numbers of shooting deaths in America and you'd probably have more.

I think the amount of dead people isn't really a good measurement of "where is it worse". The number of attackers is more interesting in my opinion.

Sure, more dead people is worse but a killer is a killer, if he manages to kill 10 or 100 people on one single day.

So, I think you have more terrorist attacks in USA (depends what you call a terrorist attack and what not) but the numbers of deaths could be higher in Europe with some hundred dying with "only" a few attacks.

Whoa... that US is in a civil war now.

This is getting out of hand. This is...horrible. I'm moving to Japan or something. I can't take it here anymore.

People aren't upset because of Beyonce, they're upset because of a toxic relationship that's existed between police and the black community for like 50+ years and mainly because today we have smartphones and things like Rodney King which were only caught on video tape once in a while back in the day are caught on tape repeatedly now. Before it was easier to sweep this under the rug.

Even Donald Trump and Newt Gingrich (how far to the right do you want to go?) have said black people get a bad shake with the police.
