Ok, so Im one of those rare gamers that has never played a Pokemon game. I really dont know anything about it other than Pikachu and the catch phrase "Gotta chach'em all". I think I was a little to old for it when its popularity was at its peak. My younger brother-6 years younger, was really into it for awhile, even collecting cards and trading and all that good stuff. But I never got into it.

However the current Pokemon GO craze really has me intrigued. Its not even available officially in my country yet, but people are all over it. i'm not the kind of person to "cheat" to play early. So when it is available, id like to get it but i thought i should play a Pokemon game first so I get the general idea of what Pokemon is all about.

So my question to you is what game should i play first? I'm the kind of person that always likes to play the first game in the series first. But i believe the first Pokemon game was on the game boy and I worry that if I play that, due to the basic nature of gamboy games (black and white graphics and such), I'll quickly lose interest.

What is considered the best game in the series and what would you suggest I play first as an entry to the series?

Thanks

Firered and Heartgold are me picks. Cause 1st and 2nd gens are my faves.

Ditto on these. If those are hard to get a hold of, perhaps you can give Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire a shot. They may not be the 1st, but perhaps better than jumping straight into X/Y or even Sun/Moon. That'd be way too many pokemon and mechanics to jump into.

If it had to be a last resort, maybe try emulating Gold/Silver.

Well, Pokemon isn't a series you need to go through in order. However, you can play Gen 1 via the Gameboy Advance remake Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green. My personal favorite is Gold and Silver. For that there is a DS remake you could play on the 3DS via backwards compatibility, Heart Gold and Soul Silver. Also, in G/S you actually get to go to Kanto, the region from Gen 1, after you beat the Joto region. X and Y are also packed with content, have better presentation, and are quite accessible and bring neat additions like avatar customization and such. Those are my three recommendations for you.

My favorite Pokemon game is Emerald, but I think you would be best off playing FireRed/LeafGreen first.

play X and Y. it has a wide variety of pokemon from every generation and makes it easier for new players to pick up. also try Black & White since they had by far one of the best stories out of all of them

You can get the og Red/Blue/Yellow on 3ds VC. Yellow has some color

I'd say the gen 2 remakes would be the best place to start

I've been playing since I was 4 😂😂

Personally, I recommend you getting Pokemon HeartGold/Soulsilver and B2/W2. They are both phenomenal games, with HG/SS known for its large play through and B2/W2 known for the story and post-game features.

Then again, you can't go wrong with any game. My least favorite(XY) would still be considered good, perhaps a 8ish rating. The games consistently improve, with the battle system being extremely solid.

I just hope you don't become attached to Pokemon Go. It's very shallow and only fun for like 5 minutes. Each pokemon game offers hours of gameplay.

Eh, Pokémon Go is nothing like mainline games... it seems to only share some classic elements, but the core gameplay is very different.

Anyway, like people said, Gen 2 is a good start. I started with Pokémon Silver as well.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
