Clearly nobody is paying for VGC numbers since ioi updates when he feels like it (over 2 months behind now). If companies were paying, he would have to update regularly and if he didn't they would stop paying anyway.

So this leads me to question why are some numbers hid behind a paywall?

There are no numbers behind a paywall. There are no numbers. ioi isn't even active on VGChartz anymore, it's Machina and Trunks that do their best to keep this website alive (but ioi is refusing to give them real admin powers for some reason).

ioi does the hardware and machina is unable to update software because of a bug. But any software numbers past 30th in the charts is hid unless you're a pro user.

As far as I know there have been no updates for the hardware charts even behind the paywall. Paying users get more comprehensive charts but that's about it.

Hasn't this happened in the past, but then all of a sudden ioi updates the data and catches up?

Honestly, it doesn't technically bother me that much... but the site IS called vgCHARTZ, and the numbers were the primary reason I started frequenting the site years ago. Now it kind of feels like they're wasting homepage space.

Yeah, the staff keeps bugging ioi about it and every once in a while he updates the numbers. But it's been a frickin two months...

But VGC was already monetized through the ads. I thought ioi made a living out of it and even was able to buy a sports car.

But have you heard more specifically on what else he's focusing on?
