Forums - General Discussion - Is Taylor Swift the most overrated singer of all time?

Who is best

Katy Perry 23 26.14%

Taylor Swift 34 38.64%

other, explain in comments 31 35.23%

Total:88

Everyone except Obama is overrated.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

She is one of the very very few popular singers, that i give all of the credit in the world, even though i don't like her music. I mean, the girl writes her own songs and sells very well. Somebody like Beyonce, has something like 7 or 8 different writers.

So basically because KP has big boobs and is more attractive, she is a better artist. LOL

Swift writes her own music. Not a fan, but as someone with a 16 year old daughter, her music has been a part of my life for years. I mean, there are so many others you could put ahead of Swift on the overrated list, including KP. And how about Miley?

While I do think Taylor Swift success is out of proportion with her musical talent, you lost me with the comparison to Katy Perry. If anything, her songwriting talent is inferior to Ms. Swift. And I don't think physical appearance should have anything to do with this conversation.

Same. I was ready to give OP a chance, but it made things worse comparing her to Katy Perry. Both are overrated imo.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I like some of her songs. But dude, Katy Perry = Taylor Swift. The difference is Katy has been doing it for a longer time (and better, to be fair).

They're nothing compared to Gaga though.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Does she write the entire song or mostly the lyrics? Because , in my opinion, anyone can write lyrics. Max Martin (the person responsible for Britney Spears' carreer) wrote both Blank Space and Shake it off, two of her most succeessful songs.

Speak Now album was entirely written by her, and that was a very successful album.I read an article on it on Forbes long ago when she was in some "top money makers" list or something.

Also, she had a lot to do with Blank Space writing, she explained how she did it in details. Not that I think it's masterpiece, if anything, the melody clearly rips off Lorde's style, who is in my opinion, the best song writer in the pop industry. Meaningful lyrics, great melodies at the age of 15. Just crazy.

Katy Perry, on the other hand, is a product of Dr.Luke. Just like Kesha and Jessie J. Dr.Luke's best work always went to Katy. His sister even voiced her anger at Katy Perry for not speaking up and defend her brother during the sexual abuse allegations fiasco.

Taylor Swift just like Beyonce, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, etc are manufactured stars promoted by cable TV networks and social media. Music was way better back in the good old days of the 1960s and 1970s. These days music relies less on talent but more on technological gimmicks. What modern day artists compare to real talent like: The Beatles, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Elvis, Frank Sinatra during the 1960s and 1970s?

Oh please, do you think there is no real music nowadays? spoiler: there is a ton of real music nowadays, its so easy to make a list of well known classics from the past to make you look like you know more about the subject when in reality you probably would have not apreciated that music in that moment at all, when in reality you are probably completely blind for the real music today, do you think Led Zeppelin were the Beyonce of the 70? No, in the 70 there was other plastic pop singers like her that everybody listen while only a minority followed the big classics everybody praises nowadays, and the same will happen with some bands from today that you are completely ignoring.

Considering she needs an entire TEAM of professional song writers to be successful makes her overrated... and by overrated I mean... WAAAAAYYYY overrated.

Truly talented song writers do it themselves.
