Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is There a Chance of Pokemon Sun/Moon Selling 20mil lifetime? (Or close to it)

the hype for pokemon go is real, but i will not push people to BUY and pokemon game, or even buy a 3ds
pokeomn go is successful because of the free2play model. and free2play sucker don't even buy mobile games for 3 bucks in general. so they won't buy a $40 dollar game if the need to buy a $100 console first

If Nintendo's strategy with Pokemon Go works, it'll do 15-20 Million. Their mobile strategy is to give users a taste of their traditional content and hope that it'll make a great enough impression to bring new users to their hardware. If it works, it'll work wonders, if not, it wont' hurt the sales of Sun and Moon.

It's possible but I really doubt it.

Still failing to see whyppl think mobile consumers are going to magically spend so much money on a handheld nd game just because of a mobile version.

But good for Nintendo if it works.

You dont understand that now that Pokemon is more popular than ever since 1996 thanks to Pokemon Go is very probable sales of the new main games are better? Pokemon Go is the biggest publicity Pokemon Sun/Moon could have ever had and with more publicity usually you get more sales, is that simple.

alot of those mobile gamers are people who have owned Pokemon before, but has been year in many cases since R/B or G/S. This might make them hungry for a deeper Pokemon game. And kids are obvious, alot who were not interested in it before are now.

It would be interesting if GF could add some kind of last minute feature between Sun/Moon and Go. Though I don't know what that would be exactly.

The easiest one would probably be adding 7th gen pokemon to go. Although maybe they could also allow you to transfer pokemon from go to sun/moon or vice versa.

Yeah, it's just making them compatible with each other somehow would instantly increase Sun/Moon's sales.  The other way Sun/Moon could really see a boost is if they did a lot of in app advertising for Sun/Moon in Go in the month leading to release. The awareness for the games would be unlike any gen since 2.

I think it will sell less than X and Y

The 3ds install base is plenty big enough as it is for Sun/Moon to be able to hit 20mil. That's only like a 33% attachmenet rate, and there are plenty of games with higher ar's than that. I agree people aren't going to lay down $150 to get a 3ds for Sun/Moon just because of Go, but there are certainly a decent amount of people that already have a 3ds and weren't interested in Pokemon, who might be now because of Go.

They need to market the hell out this game if they want to get 20 million

Or the mobile consumers just, you know, keep playing the mobile game without having to spend a few hundred on another device

I owned Pokemon before Havent touched it in years. Been excited for Go since it was announced and have zero inclination to buy Sun/ Moon.

The reality is not as simple as 'all these consumers who are playing go are hungry for more'. MAny of them are equally just as satisfied with what they have too.

But among the insane number of mobile consumers that play Pokemon Go and loved it there will be people more inclined to buy the new main pokemon game, again, this publicity is just massive.

I wonder if the opposite could actually happen ... less people buy Pokemon Sun/Moon because they are busy with Pokemon Go and getting their Pokemon fix from that.

My personal guess it will cause a boost, but perhaps not a huge one like some are predicting.

I don't think 20m will be possible, but it might just match or slightly exceed X/Y due to some extra attention from curious new fans/renewed interest by lapsed fans due to the frenzy of Pokemon Go
