Forums - Politics Discussion - Body count rises as new Philippines president calls for drug addicts to be killed

Wow. Um. Okay.

Gonna play devil's advocate here, though... I'm willing to bet they achieve record level lows in crime and drug abuse.

Thousands of drug dealers and drug addicts are now surrendering to the police just a week after President Duterte has been inaugarated.

That's.... Insanity...

Why? Drug addicts need help to stop their addiction, not be killed for it.

Nah we tried to be more conservative since time immemorial with our approach and it ended with the government being encroached in corruption because of drugs in the past administration and loopholes in our constitutions. We cannot prosecute the biggest fishes because our constitution sucks and everyone is afraid of charter change so we can't readily change the law for the good of our people. Heck even the highest police officials are now suspected of protecting drug syndicates. We needed a clean up and start fresh with a new idea.

Honestly, Albert Einstein summed it best. Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Atleast we're getting the results that we should've been getting.

Hey philipines I would like to see your coastal areas to better guarded against China-s weird policies. But you are making youraelf pretty unlikeable with these actions. For your final question and thinking like an sadistic dictator. Throw them in a cell for 3 days and if their condition is severely worsening, due to kick off symptoms. That would be a pretty good guess.

Would you want to fund our government to buy some ships, jetfighters, mercs, weapons so we could defend our border properly?

Ofcourse you know that, right? We're not like some 1st world nation where drugs is just a tier three 1st world nation problem.

you know you're getting further from 1st world by turning to a fascist regime where civilians are killed on the streets by mobs under the government protection right?

that's how you turn a country that people would be curious to visit and spend money in it's economy into a shithole like saudi arabia or iraq.

please think about it before blindly defending such an insane measure, just because your president dictates it.

no one here wants harm to your country, that's why we are being critical of this insanity

That's horrifying. No government should ever say something like that, and even less allow it to happen.

Please excuse my bad English.

False. The legal killings being done are under police operations and is still subject to investigation if there's lack of evidence that the suspect in question was a victim of false accusation or he/she did not put his/her apprehender's life in peril.

Vigilanteism is another thing and that's not what the government wants. Well if you get caught atleast you have to prove that you didn't kill an innocent human being and he/she didn't put your life in danger while apprehending him/her. That's the gist.

In terms of the economy, well it seems like a lot of foreign investors are happier with the current regime. I mean a foreigner getting kidnapped(then killed by Abu Sayyaf) in Philippines is likelier to happen than a foreigner getting killed because of drugs.

Unless you're a drug dealer/addict who fought to escape when found out, you can't really be afraid for your life in here.

IMO you are only critical with us because you don't know a thing about us. That's called xenophobia.

And CIVILIANS have now tasted blood and are encouraged to kill eachother. Yes, this must be great.

I read the article and I can't grasp it. I guess its my first world privilege, I can't even imagine a country like that.

This is pretty disgusting and shows why the South China Sea countries are corrupt and not democratic at all to make free trade deals with them. Imagine China doing the same thing, the western media would be all over it.

This is pretty much Genocide, or Pharmacide is the better greek word
