MK8 was sold 7.5m buy 30. June.

Do you relly belive that MK8 woud sell tens of milions of copies on PS4/XB1!? Offcurse not, if some people relly want to play MK8 they would buy Wii U, probably combine sales of MK8 wouldnt pass 10m on PS4/XB1. And Nintendo make much more money from console like 1st party devolper for their consoles then they would make like 3rd party, 7.5m sold copies on Wii U made them more money than they would make with around 10m on XB1/PS4.

Mario Kart Wii sold 35.8 million.

MK8 has sold 7.5 million.

All those people that enjoy playing Mario Kart didn't just dissapear off the face of the planet, they just don't want to buy a WiiU, yes I believe the game would sell 25 million+ on PS4/XBO/PC.

It's either that or the Mario Kart Brand is in HORRIFIC decline.

79% Less sales, and that's all due to the WiiU. Nintendo screwed up and gimped their software potentially MASSIVELY. Some truly phenomenal games on the system that have been held back by a completely unappealing system.

Most of those Mario Kart Wii owners are playing on mobile devices, and not on PS4/XBO/PC.

PS4 and XBO are much more successful than the Wii U, but the audience for family friendly/cartoony games is not on these platforms. Stuff like Sonic Racing Transformed and Shovel Knight (retail version had simultaneous release) still sold better on the Wii U terrible install base than on Sony/MS platforms... I really doubt Mario Kart would sell 25 million on PS4/XBO/PC.

Same can be said with any console manufacture. Software Sales > Hardware Sales. Why do we see PC gaming raising at a rapid rate? Devs are starting to see the light.

Here we go again...

No, I don't think they are restricted by having their games on their hardware quite the contrary. Unlike 3rd parties, they don't pay royalties nor do they get a chunk of profits taken away from them when it comes to digital sales.

They work under their own terms and have far more flexibility in many ways, which is something most 3rd parties are limited to having for obvious reasons. There are many other factors and reasons to take into account but many have already explained it in far more depth it'd be redundant of me to do the same.

people keep bringing up royalties. that only works if 3rd party games are actual on the system to collect royalties, somethign that isnt the case for Wii U. 3ds does better but its not like those 3rd party games are flying off the shelves

Didn't Legends still sell better on Wii U?

edit: Nvm, it did...960,000 to about 700,000.

Bravo! You got one game that not even reached 1 million on a installbase that's 4x bigger than Wii U, while the Wii U version is 300k below.

Source (I'm not talking about VGC numbers)?

For the games I mentioned, there is NPD data on Sonic Racing Transformed and Yacht Club Games confirmed Shovel Knight numbers.

Even if Rayman sold slight better on a non-Nintendo platform, it's certain that the biggest audience for family-friendly games is on the 3DS.

I guess it really depends. If their hardware continues to sell poorly (even worse than the Wii U) then going third party may be the only option they have left, although the 3DS has done rather well, so that isn't a necessary option yet. With the Wii being a really big success, that made them a lot of money. So perhaps the profits made from hardware sold is more worthwhile than trying to branch out to every device possible.

There's way too many things to consider, most of which I don't know, to simply say "One option is better than the other"
