MY feeling is take away the Pokemon name and all you would have is a AR game going nowhere.

nobody is talking about the quality of the game, I'm talking about a game that makes the tech mainstream, and vr needs that because i don't see it.

My mention of Pokemon wasn't about the games quality , just that a Pokemon AR game being successful due to the name doesn't tell us anything concrete about the future of AR.

Around the Network

Why comparing the two? i dont get it, and you seem to be quite hyped that Nintendo goes into third party direction?

I don't consider the game an AR game since only part of it is in AR (the catching). It's not like the Vita card games that are entirely played in AR or other games that work in a similar fashion.

Pokemon is big as a franchise and it has a huge following. Add to that a game where the price of entry is free, the controls are simple as is the gameplay and most importantly a game that's blown up in the media with crazy stories and you have a huge hit.

I have friends who haven't played video games for over a decade that ended up downloading it. My wives sisters who last games when they bought their Wii have downloaded it. Neither of them know what AR is and both have barely played the game.

My point is:

- Not really an AR game
- Media hype
- Pokemon fans
- People have downloaded it out of curiosity

Being on mobile, being free, being Pokemon, those are the main points I attribute to the success of this game.

Agreed.
