It was actually an upgrade to buy time for an actual GB successor but it took off well and the successor ran into development problems causing delays until being redesigned as the GBA.

It was around for like 4 years, that's like a generation at that time.

Better specs, many exclusives. It was a low end successor.

It was an upgrade. It was a Gameboy with an added multi-colour palette.

As I stated before it also had better specs, great storage capabilities, and many exclusives.

You had to upgrade to play a lot of notable games so it was indeed a successor it just wasn't treated as such given it was a low end successor.

Yeah and? It's still an upgrade and always will be it's no different to PS4 Neo and N3DS only it had exclusives, the actual GB successor is and always will be the GBA go research the whole situation GBC is just an upgrade.

I will always treat the GBC as a successor. The Pocket & Gameboy Light, as the refinements. I see the systems like TV set succesors: B&W TV, Color TV, HDTV.

Its the Neo to the PS4.

6, plus a couple hundred digital ones, those are always forgotten.

Besides, what's the cut-off point then? 1 exclusive? 5 exclusives? 10? 100? The type of game doesn't matter either, there's Gameboy Color games that couldn't run on normal Gameboy, but Xenoblade can't run on normal 3DS either, so again; where's the line? Call one of them seperate generations, then call of them that. And again, Nintendo doesn't do that themselves with any of them.

But do you think that the GBA was the same generation then as the original Gameboy? because it could play all of the GB/GBC titles but it also had its own software line? Again that system doubles the CPU clock from 8mhz up to 16mhz and had 7 times the memory in place of the GBC.

See having backwards compatibility with the older gen 4 hardware of the Gameboy line shouldn't make you think the Gameboy color isn't a 5th generation machine, or that the GBA isn't a 6th gen one. Just because the shape of the plastic casing changes between the GBC and GBA the software/hardware upgrade which happened there is the exact same.

Who says anything about the GBA? Nintendo pretty clearly presented, and still presents, that as a new generation. Seperate from the other GameBoy line.

But, why not answer my questions? Where is that line then? Why is one this and the other that? Why not make a rulebook with some, objective, guidelines on what counts as a new generation and what not. Some definite, numerical boundaries along with argumentation and why those apply to the GBC, DSi or n3DS in various ways. And while you're at it, apply those new rules to hardware from other companies as well, like with the PSPGo or now the Neo. Are those GameBoy Colors, GameBoy Advances or DSi's or are they all the same?

AND if Neo and N3DS have exclusives, they are absolutely successors. You cant have it both ways.

You know why 360 S and PS3 Slim arent considered successors? They run all the same content as the original model.

If GBC was some attachment like N64 Expansion Pack, I would agree with you. But thats not the case at all. GBC made the original GB useless for many new titles, including Zelda, Pokemon, and other notable IPs. I dont need to do research, its surprises me its even a debate.

It was a successor, it has its own catalogue of games, it came out 8 years after the previous model. Yes is wasn't a big improvement on the technical side, but it was part of another gen

Gameboy end of gen 3 and 4 (NES/MS followed by SNES MEGADRIVE)
GBC gen 5 (N64/PS1/SATURN)
GBA/GBsp/micro gen 6 (GC/PS2)
Nintendo DS/DSlite/DSi gen 7 (Wii/Xbox360/PSP/PS3)
Nintendo 3DS/2DS/New 3DS gen 8 (WiiU/XboxOne/PSvita/PS4)

N3DS does have an exclusive is it a successor? No, same shit with the GBC hence why GB and GBC sales are classed under the same platform, upgrades can have their own catalogue as well.
