Such a system is nearly impossible to be sustainable. Look at the EU, which can barely hold itself up together and is in a constant state of crisis ever since 2008. On top of that, the EU is fortunate that most of the member states have somewhat similar value and culture systems so how would you expect a worldwide government to manage hundreds of different cultures and value systems in one state?

Still as an individual you do have more freedom and opportunities than ever before, even the worst wage slaves cannot compare to working conditions some people had only 70 years ago in Western nations. It's much more difficult to control people who have access to information so perhaps I wouldn't be so pessimistic.

It's a great idea. If it can insure equal opportunity and a fair distribution of wealth,a BIG if. In every Utopia there's always one mother f***** who wants everything.

Having one government only would put power in the hands of very few people. I don't trust the few with the power would be able to use it responsibly. Sooner or later there would be a bad government for sure, and then everyone would suffer. And with the power such a government would have, fighting it would be extremely difficult. Multiple nations are needed to balance things out, if nothing else.

Remember: power corrupts.

Well when I suggested it in one of the EU threads a month back I was called out there for being dreamland and called a socialist for wanting to spread wealth and how one world government would cause countries cultures to be lost. I foudn it funny as none of this I even brought up in my discussion,

I also did throw in there a disclaimer saying human nature would make it impossible because we would all be greedy trying to exploit each other. But no one read that.

In reality if we used pure logic all the countries would get together around a table once a year and go right, this is what we got to trade this is what we need. If people were not greedy, then trade of goods could happen without anyone trying to exploit someone and there be no need for export import taxes. This would be dynamic as some years there are bad droughts in some countries or floods that ruin crops. However we know in practice wealthy countries will try to exploit the poor ones by bleeding them dry instead of a fair trade.

Absolutely against it

And like microsofts great idea, we should rename earth "One".

You are assuming that this government won't be corrupted. Read a history book and see why this will fail.

Also, the EU is lucky enough to be slightly similar. Imagine a world where highly conservative people from Saudi Arabia merge with extremely liberal people from places like Switzerland. Do you think this will work?

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Out of WW1 we got league of nations, out of WW2 we got the UN, world bank, EU and IMF and yes after WW3 they will qttempt world govt. All pre planned and an attempt to centralise power and control.World govt is a bad thing because it places a larger amount of control and power in fewer peoples hands.

unless we are threatened by extinction as a species by alien invasion or natural and man made causes then no

It won't stop people from dying by government actions, so no, I'll take the "representation" I have over the much more controlling and dangerous world of a one world government. The less consolidated the power, the better off we are. The banks aren't nearly the enemy many people perceive them to be.

I retract my previous statement on the condition I get to be the sole decision maker :)
