Forums - Sony Discussion - My PS4 is killing my internet connection

I wonder if any of you have had this problem or may be able to come up with some sort of fix.

Whenever my PS4 is turned on my internet connection goes completely south and the connection on my PC tanks. Even if I uncheck 'connect to internet' it still tanks my speeds. My PS4 isn't downloading anything, no applications are being run, just by it turning on my internet freaks out.

Anyone had this problem or can think of any fixes?

when I i got the ps4 at launch I had to disable the remote play. The signal of that was clashing with my 5ghz N wifi signal and killing the router.basically.

Wifi or LAN?

You play console games online through Wi-fi? That's not very nice. >_>

no. my laptops use wifi. but so does the remote play feature of the PS4 when connecting to VITA.

For some reason when that was enabled on my PS4 is used to kill my wifi signal which would bottleneck my router and cause the whole thing to slow to shit or evven disconnect the internet or worst case reboot the modem.

Wifi

Switch to LAN.

If that's not an option ~

Is your service provider Comcast? Do you have an Arris branded cable modem? Replace it, it's complete garbage.

I had connectivity issues when I got my PS4 and after delving into the issue, I found out that my standard modem from Comcast has wifi issues compounded by the fact that it's also a local hotspot for any other Comcast subscribers that choose to use me as an access point. The cheapest alternative for me was just hard wiring it to the modem, bypassing the wireless issues. I do plan on buying my own cable modem as well as an independent wireless router in the near future.

Have the same problem but it just started to occur recently. PS4 is connected through a LAN cable but i haven't been able to fix it yet.

This has been happening with my Xbox One during start up and multiplayer and ISP looking into it for possible bandwidth issues as I am quite a distance from the exchange. Only started since my ISP IINET was acquired by another bigger company TPG. So probably different service standards now since the takeover, who knows. These internet drop outs are very annoying. Its the internet that drops out rather than the WiFi. Resets the modem and disconnects everyone else connected to it.

Its actually funny, I used to have a similar issue with my Vita. It used to pretty much hog all the bandwidth fro some reason when I played online or used the PSN in general. No other laptop or smartphone connection was possible, on a fairly good router and internet connection that could usually easily support 4-5 laptops with constant connection. Then after an update it simply stopped and it worked as it should have.

I didn't notice this with my PS4 though. I can easily play online, while my girlfriend is working from her PC, my PC is downloading some movies or games and my brother/sister/mother/whoever uses it to browse the net from his/her smartphone.

Could this be some sort of compatibility issue with the PS firmware and the router you might be using? Was this always present?
