I took it to the shop today. Turns out my old power brick is fine, it's only the console. He gave me a refurished one to try, said I can have it for $10--$20 bucks if it works alright. Those old white 360's aren't worth much anymore apparently. I guess I'll add it on to the tally of the ps4 pro on Thursday, pop HDD over and back in business for a while. Easy 'fix'.

Hmm... the old power brick is fine, but what about the other one? If it was working before you got it, and yet was showing a different state then your old brick, that's quite odd. Unless the other brick wasn't actually working properly.

Hopefully that refurb works ok. Is he going to repair your old unit and sell it, or is it beyond repair and just spare parts now?

The old white 360's are super cheap now yes. Most people will simply upgrade to the S models to make sure they don't have to deal with the red ring issue.

PS4 Pro "fix", lol, NICE!   Hopefully the Pro's new APU X-Clamp doesn't create the same problems the 360's did.

The power brick that let the lights flash was from an original 360, mine from a replacement, still the old box yet with hdmi output. (First one died repeatedly, store gave a replacement instead of repairing again). Maybe the newer brick shuts off power when it detects something wrong, hence no error state on the 360?

He let me have the refurb for $15, they don't repair them anymore. They're only used for target practice now... So I guess I have it for spare parts, or decoration, or to experiment on when bored. The refurb works fine for now.

Nope, had two cases of RROD. Fortunately I got insurance on it as I heard about this issue and got it replaced for free.

And if you didn't survive:

1) How many years did your PS3/Xbox360 last before they failed on you?

2) What did you do when it/they failed?

a) Did you buy another or went to another console from another company?

b) Did you fix it?

If you survived:

1) How many years has your console stayed alive?

1) 1 year almost to the day, 3 times in a row.

2) warranty replacement each time until the third failed

3) PS3 had come down enough in price by our third failure, so we switched to the PS3 slim.

4) Well, I've never had any YLOD issues d:

side note: RROD is a large factor as to why I won't purchase hardware from MS.

My launch 60GB PS3 YLOD'd on me in about 2011 and I got myself the first Slim console (the superslim is fugly) which is still going strong to this day!

Three dead Xbox 360. One dead PS3.

My 8th gen collection

7th Gen was the worst.

Phat PS3 dead within a year, replaced with warranty. Died again after 6 years, due to me playing it in 90 degree room. I miss my PS1/PS2/PS3 box.

2 360s dead after about a year, no warranty. Fixed both by myself, but one died again soon after. ~2 years.

Went to PS4, instead of buying another terrible 7th gen system.

my ps3 phat from 2008 is still kicking ass.

Once died in 2008.

Yes. I survived both. Although I only had an XB30 for about ten months, before I traded it in at EB. My original 60gb PS3 lasted until 2009, and was fried in a power surge. I got it repaired at a local shop.

My PS3 slim, bought in 09 right after the slims came out is probably on its last legs. The disc drive won't read as well as it used to, and I need to "warm it up" to get it to work. Never owned a 360.
