Forums - Gaming Discussion - How to save consoles?

Sony is already saving consoles with PS Neo, exclusives and VR

Consoles are going to sell less than 6th and 7th generation for sure. No doubt about that. I once said that this generation will sell closer to 5th generation then to 6th generation. We almost went back three generations worth of sales! That is a quick drop.

The only way for consoles to do better is to make them more like consoles and less like PCs

Tag:I'm not bias towards Nintendo. You just think that way (Admin note - it's "biased".  Not "bias")
(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

PS4 is doing just as well as the PS2.

PS2 by this point had sold nearly 60 million units, that's around 50% higher than PS4. So no, PS4 is doing nowhere near as

It smashes ps2 figures, and it's the fastest-selling in history of the ps

also ps4 had already sold  40m and you say it's higher by around 50% than ps4!!

Console are fine, but i don't think there will be another console gen anymore. With Nintendo seeing what smartphone can brought to them, expect their future MAIN installment over there. Even if they don't want to, the investors will force them to since that's what they're investing on. After all, that 30% rise in stocks aren't just a gift.

As for Microsoft, they show sign of making the Windows 10 their next gaming platform instead of the Xbox brand. This could be the final gen for the Xbox Brand. It's all good tho, since i also gaming on Windows, have some xbox exclusives are always a plus :).

As for Sony. We all know about it, they constantly reminded us that there won't be a PS5. They're planning the future with PlayStation Now (but with the ability to purchase the game instead of buying subscription)

Actually, we are just seeing a return to normalcy. Gen 7 *WAS AN ANOMALY*. People need to understand that. Not that it should need explaining.

Gen 6 to Gen 7 was a growth from less than 200 million to over 260 million and handhelds went from a bit over 80 million to over 200 million. That's an insane amount of growth. Especially with the distribution (3 consoles doing HUGE numbers is unusual). And part of that was people who are not part of the actual console marketing stepping in temporarily and those who are in the market owning multiples (the Wii was owned by quite a lot of people as a secondary/party console alongside other machines). Those two factors have now faded, what we are seeing is a return to sales more in line with Gen 6 and such.

From what I'm seeing, yes consoles are still relavent (the PS4 is huge), but it looks like they're not as big as they were in past generations.

Why is this happening, and what can be done to change it?

Do consoles need to utilize new technologies, new ways of visual immersion, or new ways to play games?

1) Exclusive games (you cant find on say pc). That gets people buying consoles.

2) affordability & precieved value (this one is the big one) (expensive consoles are a mistake imo)

3) removeing PS plus / live Gold. People dont like to pay for online and alot of people like online games.

4) more equal prices, between consoles & pc (for games).

Errr... No. PS4 is still the fastest selling PlayStation in history as of the end of may, straight from Sony themselves.

Last I heard the XBO was also selling faster than the 360, so no home consoles are doing just fine except for Nintendo.

Most people clearly don't mind.

You could argue it. 50% of the PS4 userbase doesn't have PS+. So it's even.

Right, but most of the people we see complaining about it are PC gamers cherry-picking reasons not to buy a console, so I don't believe that's a lost sale since they obviously just don't want one.
