Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will Pokemon Go have an impact on Sun and Moon sales?

With the explosive success of Go a lot of people out there are rekindling their love of pokemon so i'm really curious to see if this will boost the sales of the new pokemon games coming this fall. I mean i've seen videos of people going out to sea in Kayaks and setting up gyms on the ocean. Do you think it will boost sales?

According to amazon, yes - there has been a rise in all pokemon related products since Go release.

Actually, I think I might make a new thread, what do you think?

Bet with PeH:

I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.

Bet with WagnerPaiva:

I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

Also, New Nintendo 3DS is currently 19 on Amazon for best sellers in video games

This is one of the things I like the most about Nintendo developing for mobile; it essentially advertises their franchises and hardware to people who might have forgotten about Nintendo and their games.  All it takes is one game to bring former fans back into the fold -- Xenoblade on the Wii did that for me after I skipped out on most of the 7th gen.

This is what I've been saying for a while now. Having more people try Pokemon and Mario , etc, on mobile will make some of them interested in the bigger core titles. Even if as little as 1% of the players bought a Nintendo system with some games, that's a big win right there.

Pokemon being on iOS/Android is the big draw, if Pokemon Go was on 3DS only it would be nowhere near as popular.

Sonic is very successful on iOS/Android but it didn't do anything for Sonic's recent home games. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I'll get some tthat used to play Pokemon get into it again

It's possible, maybe? It could potentially bring in new fans who start with Pokemon Go and develop enough interest in the series, look further into it, and maybe even buy a 3DS and Sun/Moon to try it for themselves.

...Or it could do nothing and sales are around the same as the last selling one. We'll find out with Sun/Moon's releases.

Possibly, but Sun and Moon is still gonna sell like hotcakes for sure.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

GO is pretty basic compared to a regular Pokemon game. I don't see it having much effect at all

On the second page, even the Game Boy cartridge of Pokémon Red is up 44%.

They should add gen 7 to Go a couple weeks before SM launch, before adding any other gens. That would draw attention to it.

I wouldn't say as much, but it;s one hell of a way to get the game advertised out there. Nintendo should totally toss in some "hey we also sell a 3DS and all the Pokemon titles with it" kind of ad, especially since ads are a common thing with mobiles and mobile gaming.
