Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will Pokemon Go have an impact on Sun and Moon sales?

With the explosive success of Go a lot of people out there are rekindling their love of pokemon so i'm really curious to see if this will boost the sales of the new pokemon games coming this fall. I mean i've seen videos of people going out to sea in Kayaks and setting up gyms on the ocean. Do you think it will boost sales?

I say no. Go is free. So anyone can just want to dl it, and goof off. Sun and Moon are full price. And need a handheld.

It will definitely be a stretch (a F2P mobile game to a $40 game) but it might offer a bit of a bump. If they do some cross promotion I can see that being more of a thing.

Weren't Pokemon Sun, Moon, X and Alpha Sapphire part of the top 10 selling games on Amazon some hours ago? It's definitely going to have a positive impact, Pokémon is trending right now. Nostalgia may play a factor.

It's possible, but I doubt it. If it has an impact, it will be positive I can tell you that much.
The same people who bought a 3DS system back in 2013 or 2014 for X/Y or OR/AS will most likely get Sun/Moon. And it is possible that the people who are some back into Pokémon again as a result of Go may splurge and buy a 3DS system for Sun/Moon and the other Pokémon games. And it's not that expensive anymore since the 2DS is at $80 now.

Its going to a hard achievement to do, but I believe it will, even if only 1% or less does the jump. But hey, imagine if Pokemon Go manages to be downloaded 1 billion times(not a stretch by any means), so I would say 1% of 1 billion is excellent.Plus, 2DS is 80 dollars know and who knows how much it will be by Black Friday. So I would say that with around 100 dollars you can buy a 2DS and the new Pokemon, and that is very likely(for people to spend the money) to happen for the holiday, especially if it is the Christmas gift.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Also, New Nintendo 3DS is currently 19 on Amazon for best sellers in video games

It's a guaranteed 10M+ seller, probably millions more with the force of Pokemon Go.

And besides it's Pokemon's 25th anniversary. I haven't bought a pokemon game in years, and I plan to buy Moon. :)

This is one of the things I like the most about Nintendo developing for mobile; it essentially advertises their franchises and hardware to people who might have forgotten about Nintendo and their games.  All it takes is one game to bring former fans back into the fold -- Xenoblade on the Wii did that for me after I skipped out on most of the 7th gen.
