Forums - General Discussion - Study suggests Cannabis traded 10, 000 years ago. Evidence for spike in consciousness and civilisation?

"Spike in consciousness" seems a bit reaching to me. Not anything special about cannabis besides it being used a for mild pain relief and stress relief. It messes up people's short term memory if they smoke it often enough. Alcohol is probably had a more stronger influence on human civilization especially since the vast majority of civilizations made their own to consume and trade.

There is so much mis-information about cannabis.

Lots of people actively spread facebook memes like "Cannabis cures cancer" etc'. Know one bloke who has forgone all potential life-saving cancer treatment and stuck to treating it with Cannabis.
I don't see him living another year.

Smoking it actually causes cancer. Hence the irony.

Cannabis by its self can not give cancer and in fact has been showing to help with it.

Now im not saying it "Cures" cancer, but It helps people to keep down their food and with the pains etc.

Only cancer making thing in a "Joint" is Tobacco if you use it with one.

It doesn't *cure* cancer.
It does have some effect, but that's significantly different than curing all cancers, alltogether.

Otherwise there wouldn't be so many stoners still getting cancer.

The most common way to consume it is via smoking it as well... Which causes cancer as it shares over 50 of the same carcinogens as Tobacco.
And let's face it, people will say *whatever* to justify their addictions, it's why they are called addictions, if it means calling the "illness" card, then that is what they will do, science be damned.
Marijuana consumption has also been linked to an increased risk of testicular cancer.

There needs to be more indepth research so we have all the facts before people start blasting it's health benefits, it's almost a repeat of when Cigarettes became a "thing" and look how that turned out.

You are right it does assist with food and pain, but there are other medications that can be taken for that.

Cannabis, mushrooms and all psy-drugs have been used for millenniums.

I would argue that cannabis relative hemp has been more beneficial to humans considering it is one of the strongest natural fiber on our planet which is very helpful in rope and other products. It also allowed a more portable form of writing over stone tablets.  Cannabis has many benefits especially as a mild pain reliever (hell a lot better than popping pills for minor sores).  I just think hemp contribution has been a lot more to civilization advancement.  Shame that is illegal to grow in USA even though it contains about .3% THC.  Last time hemp was legal to grow in all 50 states was back in WW2 when the government needed a shitload of rope for the Navy and other armed services.

Cured my OCD, returned me from severe insomnia. Brought me back from an opiate addiction TWICE. Managed pain while I was ill for a few months without me getting on Oxy again. Among many mind expanding and self paradigm shifting progressions for me. I'd smoke it now but it's to strong in skunk form.

Prohibition ended where I live and I found a THC strain called Cenex (best grower is Phat Panda) and it is non-euphoric.  Just blissful.

if you look at all other strains they all list euphoria as the main effect but not this one. Changed my life.

What movie is that in your sig.  demon/monster in it reminds me of recurring sleep paralysis episode i used to experience. Is the creature imfamous?

The gif is from a short horror film called "The Rake".  The creature looks very similar to other creatures from different films. I guess directors like the look because it bothers people.

Abaca is actually the strongest natural fiber. Abaca being a type of Banana plant.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Man discovered fire, then man discovered that other fire if ya kno what I mean

Perhaps I just took claims like that for granted but perhaps it is strong but not the strongest (hemp).  It might be the easiest to mass produce.  I dwelled deeper into the subject (one google search) and spider silk started appearing on some links but the top link says Sorry Spiders; Sea Snails make the strongest material on earth.  However, none of that can be easily mass reproduced yet and I'm pretty sure hemp grows better (faster and more dense) than a Banana plant.  So the most cost effective way to make strong natural rope would be the hemp plant.  I'll edit strongest to one of the strongest in my original post.
