Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Out of the main console Halos, where do you rank 5?

I put at...

#1 11 7.64%

#2 8 5.56%

#3 24 16.67%

#4 13 9.03%

#5 13 9.03%

#6 43 29.86%

Haven't played it 32 22.22%

Total:144

I place it last mostly because the story was a convoluted mess, graphically it was pretty average rather than system pushing and it lacked a ton of content expected out of a Halo game, like Forge and various game modes and map variety.
The Req system also wrecked it for me.

Things might have changed now, but first impressions tend to last.

Of course I'll still grab a copy of Halo 6 and Halo Wars 2.

Pretty bad. First impression: It is 100% apparent that Bungie didn't make Halo 5. The controls were lackluster and flaccid (which to me is one of the most important things in a Halo game). The multi-player maps I played were boring. I didn't even finish the campaign before I just gave up and put it back on the shelf.

I dunno, considering the hardware and the fact that it runs at a practically faultless 60fps, I suspect it's pretty demanding on the Xbox One's chipset. It has to make a lot of sacrifices to get there, but you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

#1: Halo 2
#2: Halo 3
#3: Halo: CE
#4: Halo 5
#5: Halo: Reach
#6: Halo 4

Halo 5's multiplayer saved it from being #6 or 5. Gameplay wise, Halo 5 is the best of the bunch. As far as the overall package it's not quiet up there with the originals. Post-launch content has saved Halo 5 as well. Firefight is amazing, zombies is the best in the series, and Forge is the best in the series. They've brought back classic weapons like the Halo: CE pistol, Halo 2 BR, Plasma Rifle, Halo 2 beam rifle, gravity hammer, and whatever else. If it wasn't for the meh story it would probably be rank it #3. It's not like the campaign isn't fun (just solo'd on legendary), as far as level design and gameplay it's very well made, but the story itself is all over the place and not paced very well.

Halo 3

Halo Reach

Halo 5

Halo CE

Halo 2

Halo 4

I thought campaign of 5 was decent enough compared to, say CE and 2. Some of my favorite campaign moments now comes from 5. Best MP out of all, on my way to have more playtime on 5 than any of the other Halo games. Overall it's not good enough to beat Reach or 3 for me though.

It's right behind 4 and 3 IMO, but they are all fantastic games, best series ever.

The game isn't rendering everything at 60fps though. Spartans off in the distance look like they are being rendered at 10-15fps, there are animations that are being rendered at 30fps.

Texture filtering is poor and that impacts on grainy/blurry texturing in places, the Dynamic resolution compounds that as well.
Shadow quality is terrible, foliage and general object detail is terrible, some low-quality sprites and other assets.
The open areas in Warzone can look last-gen at times.

I would have rather they limited the resolution to 720P to bolster everything else *and* retain 60fps.

There are many games on the Xbox One that even at 60fps, look better than Halo 5 in my opinion, Halo has usually managed to shine thanks to great art rather than sheer graphics fidelity, unfortunately that's not hiding things in Halo 5 all that well this time around.

But it is a good starting point to build Halo 6 from though.

What separates Halo 5 from most other 60fps targeting games on Xbox One (like COD) is that Halo is practically locked at 60fps, while most others are more of a "perceptual" 60fps, where they drop into the 50s when things heat up.

I agree that they should have just locked the resolution at 720p, but I think they were afraid of the negative publicity they'd get from their premier game running at a "last gen" resolution.

Hmm

I'd go....
Halo 2
Halo CE
Halo 5
Halo 4
Halo Reach
Halo 3

So I'd rank it third. The campaign, sadly was a huge let down, but all the gameplay changes they made are aces in my book, and the multiplayer is terrific. The best it's ever been imo. Post launch support has been flawless as well, adding in pretty much everything the game left to be desired (minus split screen). At no extra charge mind you. So at the end of the day when all's said and done this is one of the more significant, and memorable Halos to me.

The lowest.

Worst Campaign and worst story in a Halo game.

The MP is a disappointment, with so many stupid mistakes that ruin a solid MP experience, such as 4v4, tacked on big team, dreadful forge art style and limited Warzone maps.
