I think the day that Ronaldo surpassed Messi was when Messi retired from the Argentinian national team at the age of 29. Ronaldo may cry when he loses in a big game, but he has never been such a sore loser.

It's really strange. For so many years it looked like Messi has much better sportsmanship than Ronaldo, but within a couple of weeks the whole thing got turned upside down.

Portuguese media never witch hunts Ronaldo when they lose. They praised him for their performance in the World Cup.

Messi's always under the microscope for anything that happens with the Argentina national team in the cups. They question his patriotism and at times call him Catalan. Ronaldo doesn't put up with that even though he's more of a drama queen. His mom comes calls out the commentators that question his weak performances.

I wouldn't play for Argentina if I was Messi.

LOL Portugal were the luckiest team i've seen in a long time in a tournament.

Ronaldo's contribution was fumbling the ball throughout the tournament.

Salty much ?

xD

Not really I'm in Austrlia so it doesn't bother me who won. Just a nuetral observation.

This is really evidence of how ridiculous the "ring" count approach can be to judging an individual in a team sport... a man gets injured early in the match with the game tied 0-0, his team goes on to win the game without him, and now he's better than he was prior to the game? Suddenly he's surpassed Messi while walking the sideline?

Pretty much applies to all team sports.

My gf laughed her ass off cause i couldn't tell her who Messi was the other day. If only this was posted a few days ago it would have saved me the embarrassment.

Messi is one of the best forwards to ever play football, yet Ronaldo is a better overall player. This tournament hasn't changed that fact. Well done to him and Portugal on their win.

explain yourself, please.

Quite late reply, sorry was late, went to bed. He's better because he is better overall, personal view. Whenever I see Messi play he's either just walking in the middle of the field waiting for the ball to fall to him or showing exception skill in front of goal. Meanwhile Ronaldo just tracked back into the box to head the ball away from a corner, put in 3 or 4 great tackles and scored a wonderful goal. Better overall.

Hmm, pie.

He can't be better than Messi because he tweezes his eyebrows.

Haha. Are you saying that it isn't luck when the team that finished 3rd in the weakest group wins the damn tournament?

I must be on crazy pills, because Ronaldo had a pretty awful tournament for his standards.

Full props to Portugal though & well earned, they definitely now know how Greece would have felt back in 2004, France were going hard but they held on. People call defensive football ugly but hey, if it wins it wins.

In all honesty though I hope they don't use this lax group format in the World Cup. A third place team going on to win the whole thing I imagine would have left the organisers red in the face.

Finishing 3rd in their group, and then winning a game in full time only once?

Yeah Portugal were fantastic..
