Forums - Gaming Discussion - Pokemon Go has me wondering some things

Besides the usual, "when will this game actually function", it makes me wonder about nintendo's strategy.

Will pokemon go finally be the game that makes nintendo realize how shitty they've been with their catalogue?

For years they said they never wanted to make a pokemon mmo, because it went against what pokemon was. But the success of this game, which is blowing every ios game out of the water, should be opening some eyes up at nintendo. I feel like they're a bunch of old-school people sometimes who don't understand what people want anymore.

What do you think?

Will po-go finally be the revolution for nintendo?

I 100% agree.

A Pokemon MMO would set the world on fire.

Pokémon GO only happened due to the strange situation the Pokémon brand sits in, the reason why they never listen to fans is that while never appearing in pubblic Tajiri probably has a clear idea of what he wants to do with the Pokémon brand and that's the reason why PokéMMOn never happened. Nintendo won't learn anything by this experience since they have minimum affect on development and the games they plan to release on Mobile are far too different from GO to learn anything (besides the right ammount of items given to players so that you don't push too much your in-app purchases)

I said it long ago.

If Xenoblade Chronicles X wouldnt be Xenoblade but an open world Pokemon game (combat system, world etc. all similar/same) the wii u would be revived and sell easily 2-3 x as many copies.

I really cant understand why a company like nintendo dont get so much obviously things right.

Pokemon GO isnt that great again. Imagine they would use standard pokemon gameplay (fight pokemons before catching them, turn based combat, fight other players).
Nintendo is really good in not using their potential and making dumb, uneccesary decission (like not supporting the pro controller in mario&sonicrio2016)

Well... It has already helped find a dead body floating in a river... So even if Nintendo doesn't change... At least there is that

"They should make a Pokemon MMO" is the wrong lesson here. GO is successfully pulling in people who never played Pokemon games; for whom sitting down to play a 30 hour RPG on a handheld with a complex battle system is too much of an investment.

To replicate this success, they need to go MORE casual. That means making people who go on VGChartz as angry as possible.

This sudden Pokemon Go craze has me wondering some things too, like whether I'm part of the same species.
Then again I never understood the appeal of Pokemon nor the love of smart phones :)

Exactly.

That wasnt really what I meant.

Maybe I worded it wrong. I didn't mean nintendo needs to now make a pokemmo. This basically IS a pokemon mmo, which will evolve over time to include more interesting concepts.

What I mean is, will this game change the way nintendo thinks about games. Previously, nobody thought something like this would work. The google pokemon thing that happened like a year ago was just a joke. Like, it was april fools or something. I dont' exactly remember, but I remember them not taking it seriously until it was hugely successful.

Nintendo should take a lesson from pokego, and look at their franchises differently. They tried doing this exact thing with miitomo and it failed. Because nintendo doesn't get it. They thought that it would be more successful to use mii's. I think Nintendo needs to start listening to the younger players, rather than have old people try and make decisions for what young people will like

Pokémon is belong to GameFreak, and they're NOT 1st party like people still think

Nintendo is the one who holding the copyright on Pokémon series beside Game Freak and Creatures

So if you want to play a MMO Pokémon game, then GameFreak is the one you should ask
