Forums - General Discussion - Using VGCHARTZ in a video

I was on YouTube and decided to watch "Did you know Gaming". I realized that some of the figures they used were from vgchartz.

Curious, but do you need permission at all to use any information from vgchartz, or is one allowed to go ahead and use it without asking?

Thanks to anyone who answers

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Why would someone need permission to state a number?

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

I doubt it. If vgc requires permission for numbers, they wouldn't display it in the front page of a publicly available site...

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

It's public information, available to anyone. The only case I could see being a problem would be using VGC Pro numbers (which are private, and behind a paywall), or blatantly calling those numbers as your own source instead of crediting VGC.

The Know also uses vgcharz numbers every once in a while.But since you can see the numbers free of charge, and is simply information about another product, I think there is no problem.I mean, if that was the case, every time a video were to use a sales number from an official source, do they need to ask for permission to the companie?Since thats not the case, i guess you could apply the same to here.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

It's public information. Of course you don't need permission to use public information. It's always courteous to reference where you got the information from, though.

bet: lost

Would apply to the numbers.
