Forums - Gaming Discussion - Pokémon GO Is Making More Money Than Any Other iOS App

Good news for Pokemon fans :)

http://www.themarysue.com/pokemon-go-making-bank/

Do you think this could be the next Clash of Clans or Candy Crush?

Pokémon GO, Nintendo’s mobile Pokémon outing that’s to blame for more people walking around staring at their phones than usual, quickly topped App Store charts after being released just days ago, but now it’s got a new claim to fame. Despite being a free app—and that some people *cough cough* still can’t play due to server problems—it’s making more money than anything else on Apple’s App Store right now.

That’s according to data shared with GamesBeat, which puts it ahead of games like Game of WarClash Royale, and Clash of Clans—not to mention non-game apps that charge subscription fees, like Spotify. It’s worth mentioning that those three other money-making games also follow a similar “freemium” model to Pokémon GO, where the app is free, but bonuses within the game can be paid for in cash for players who get hooked.

That’s not to undermine GO‘s success, though, as Nintendo’s previous mobile app, Miitomo, was also freemium and failed to have much of an effect on app store standings. Clearly, leveraging their powerful brands is the way to go for Nintendo in the mobile app game. On the other hand, it’s still early yet, and it should be interesting to see whether the game keepsmaking money over time, which is another area in which Miitomostruggled.

Even if things taper off, this is still a success story for Nintendo, which is good news for their future mobile offerings, which we will all gladly accept with open arms (and probably wallets). If you need some more good news in your day (we all do), the game is also having another notable effect on people: It’s helping them make friends.

The game has been doing a lot of good, such as a girl who found a dead body which helped the authorities on a murder mystery. As the OP pointed out. It's helping people make friends.

It's also doing some not so good with a legion of idiots. I've stories (rumors) about people barging into buildings and even Churches to catch Pokémon. I've seen a majority of pictures online where we see dashboards and side mirrors. A lot of people are driving and playing Pokémon Go to get to their locations faster and catch things on the way. Nintendo will not be the only one making A LOT of money off this game.

This game is a brand new genre. A MMRLRPG (Massively Multiplayer Real Life Role Playing Game)

Good. At least it's encouraging people to go outside. My Galaxy Tab doesn't work with it though.

I've heard that the App is capable of sensoring the speed you're traveling at so that it doesn't count when you travel by car, they really want us to toil to get those eggs hatched.

The App will have longevity, as of now there are only the first 151 Pokémon but the other 600+ (given Pokémon S/M mons will have to be added aswell) will take some time to be added...

Isn't that basically what ingress and, to a lesser extent, Invizimals were?

Pretty much. The term needs to become official though :D And now it is because I said so ^.^

I have a friend who plays Ingress and even drove all the way up to fucking Yukon which is top Northern Canada for his team. Wow.... People are probably going to do stuff like that with Pokémon Go as well. What's the map range in this game anyways? Ughhhhh I want it to come out in Canada! I'm fucking dying here Q.Q

Please stay safe, people.

The opening for this game is much much much bigger than Miitomo.

It's just crazy how Pokemon was a huge phenomenon, and now, with Go, it's showing how big it still really is.

Played 10+ hours in 2 days. Would have put in more hours but work and sleep are getting in the way -_-
It's so much fun and it's the first time Pokemon has been making an appearance in mainstream media/press since Red and Blue back in the day.

I hope the Fire Emblem mobile game has at least 1% of the success this has.

People wanted a Pokemon MMO. Nintendo delivered. Is phone gaming finally legit?
