Forums - Gaming Discussion - Favorite racing segments in mainly non-racing games

You know, sometimes you are playing a game that has nothing to do with the racing genre and suddenly *POW* the devs put you to do some racing out of the blue.

So, what is your favorite racing segment in a game that isn't generally about racing?

What did you like about it?

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

This thread topic feels oddly specific.

Uhh, there was a boss in Pac-Man World that involved racing clowns, so... that I guess?

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I remember a Mortal Kombat title having a racing mode. Was great fun!

Halo: Combat Evolved's climatic, final race against the clock. It was an intense and atmospheric moment, coupled with the fact that everything was getting blown away and that every monster and creature still left alive were running aimlessly as you ran past them trying not to get caught on the explosion. If that wasn't enough, the game tricks you into reaching a specific destination that really takes you nowhere, makes you waste time waiting for something that won't happen and then you have to cover yet another huge distance while the clock is stil going down trying to desperatedly reach your only means of escaping. You leave the car right in front of it and you have to make one final sprint (on-foot) to get to the ship.

Other Halo games (like Halo 3's ending scene) have tried replicating this moment, but nothing will ever manage to be as awesome as how Combat Evolved did it.

Really can't think of much... one that comes to mind that's actually not very good by anyone's standards but I liked as a kid is that speederbike level of Shadows of the Empire. Really, I don't think anyone would enjoy it today but I was so blown away at the time both by the 3D and that I was actually flying a speeder, pushing others into walls to explode, and jumping over sarlacc pits that I overlooked how frustrating the controls are heh

Bobsled minigame in Mario Party 2

Should have been a full game; it's short but while it's on it's more fun than Mario Kart against friends.

mmmm... I won´t remember many, but.... these ones were pretty fun:

The JetBike racing in Chronno Trigger (SNES)
The driving missions in Lego City Undercover (WiiU)
The post-apocalype stage in Virtual Bart (Genesis)

Mafia 1 - probably my favorite non-racing game driving implementation, with some really tricky driving missions.

Chocobo racing at the Gold Saucer, Final Fantasy VII.
