Forums - Sales Discussion - Microsoft profits post implementation of cross buy

Will Microsoft's profits increase or decrease after implementation of cross buy?

Decrease due to hardware sale decline 55 28.50%

Increase due to software sale increase 81 41.97%

Won't impact it much 39 20.21%

I still refuse to believe all this 1 0.52%

Sony/Nintendo fan here ju... 17 8.81%

Total:193

Alright, I have some curiosities here, and I'm curious (chortle) what yours are as well on the subject.

Vote in the poll and discuss below.

Just in case the poll gets cut off, here is the question, "Will Microsofts profits increase or decrease after implementation of this, knowing that software may increase in sales but hardware may decrease in sales?"

Software sales earn more profit than Hardware sales.

I don't think Xbox sales will decrease by anything other than a negligible amount so their profits will increase. It's smart to have their thumbs in both pots as PlayStation is dominating the homeconsole market. It's a good move for microsoft.

Basically the only way it would hurt profits is if they sell less Gold Subcriptions and less Third Party Xbox games, while i'm sure they will sell "less" of both it will be by an amount too small to not be made up by the sales of their games on PC.

Xbox profits (slightly down)
Microsoft Games Division Profits Overall (up)

If they handle the implementation right, it could massive increases of software sales to Sony and Nintendo gamers who have PCs. We'll have to see how it pans out.

Cross buy won't decrease hardware sales, however the announcement of the Scorpio just after showing the Xbox one S will. I don't think cross buy will have a huge impact on sales overall.

It will lower hardware sales + xbox live gold services profits (less people will use xbox live, or get it).
It will give higher game software sales, which means higher profits from software.

Its hard to say, overall maybe a tiny boost.
I voted for "wont impact it much".

I think the "less hardware sales" + "less xbox live gold" services, counter the "higher software game sales".

The net "profit" is near zero, imo.

Crazy that people still think hardware sales will decrease.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

"theres no longer a reason to get a xbox, get a pc instead"

^ you hear that alot, lately.

I think it might have some sorta effect, the question is how much of one it ll have.

Also Scorpio announced at end of their e3 conference, when they opened with announceing the Slim.

This could be a year where Xbox One is down year-on-year.

People getting PCs instead, or waiting on the scorpio.

Profits will increase.
