Forums - Microsoft Discussion - XB1 S is a Better Value than a $400 PC

LurkerJ said:

Funny how these comparisons NEVER include the annual fees you HAVE TO pay to play online. Gaming for 4 years on either console will cost you 200 dollars. I can easily spend those 200 dollars on games I actually want.

No, you have to spend these 200 bucks towards the loan you took for the GTX1080.

Except that with the PC you can do a thousand more things beside playing.

It's you who are comparing a PC with the XboxOne S that won't launch until next year. I'm just using your comparison.

$60 will give you lots of games on PC too, you just have to take advantage of the sales that PC gamers enjoy several times each year (in the last 12 months Steam has had 4: Halloween, Winter, Chinesse new year and Summer. GOG has had almost the same).

Xbox One S will have many more years of support... just like the original XboxOne. Don't take PR statements as a fact or an absolute truth. And your "upgrade" to Scorpio consists of buying the new console at whatever it costs. With a PC, you'll only have to buy a graphics card.

The Xbox One S launches next month.

Console have weekly sales and the occasional big summer, winter, spring, fall sales.

Ok, I didn't know that the S launched so soon.

And how big of a discount do the games use to get? Right now at Steam you can get a 40% off of the new Doom and GTA V, and a 50% off of The Witcher 3. Sure, you won't be able to get those three games for $60, neither on PC nor console, but there are thousands of other games, new and old, that you can get.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I'm not sure about the PSN sale but I assume it's like the xbox one. The summer sales starts tomorrow with 30-40% off games and up to 10% more if you have gold. Also with BC you can find cheap x360 that are playable on the xb1.

Consoles do have sales, but they never tend to be as competitive as steam sales.

Thats the thing about PC gaming, even if the amount spent initially is similar, between lack of fees and cheaper game prices the cost of continuing to play is far lower.

At Steam and GOG, there are games that reach 60, 75 and even 80% off sales (I would like to link an example, but the Steam Sales have just ended). And that's without mentioning that the starting price of games tends to be a bit cheaper on PC.

And don't even bring BC to a discussion between console vs PC. It won't end well for you.

*Edit*

Right now Pixeljunk Shooter is 90% off at GOG: https://www.gog.com/game/pixeljunk_shooter and Raiden III, 80% off: https://www.gog.com/game/raiden_3_digital_edition

Those sales do sound good but were those for games that people actually care about or small indies/niche games?

You are confusing Xbox One S with Xbox Scropio, the scorpio launches next year and we don't know how it's gonna be priced since it's gonna equipped with enitrely different internals. The Xbox One S will run games at the same level the original Xbox does.

See my edit.

And there's a market for every game. Point & Click fans love to see the Deponia games at 85% off during the Steam sales. Platformer fans would buy Toki Tori at 90% off (the same goes for the sequel), etc.

AAA games usually top between 50 and 66% off, which is quite a nice discount.

If this is a relevent question here its also a relevent question when packed into the value of a service like Xbox live. No xbox live member has any say in the type or quality of games they recive as part of the membership.
