[2] at the end of the day, the only way you can save your data absolutely is to back it up somehow on 2 devices, then if one fails, make a new backup. [3]

[1] Of all the typos I could make, I just had to make the one that still sounds like a word... Yes, I meant ransomware (I wrote 'randomware' first this time too). And sounds like what I thought, thanks for confirmation!

[3] I know. That's why I'm a bit lazy with that. Manual backups are no fun, and it still requires another device. I have one, but it's capacity is smaller than the one's I have now and it requires external power. Cloud backups are always another option too, but it costs money, and I'm pretty sure that to back up a 2 TB drive, it's going to be a lot of money. I'm sure once I'm done with my studies and get a job, I'll also get some backup storage but until then, I'm just hoping I have enough luck. At least I don't have anything super important so losing everything shouldn't be catastrophic.

Yeah I mean if it's mostly just basic files you can re get from the net like games from steam and roms etc on the PC then I wouldn't worry about those, but for important documents or invoices saved on your PC the best solution could be as easy as just to use your google drive, that thing offers 15gb of storage space available anywhere you can connect to the internet, I use mine basically as the usb stick that I just can't do without. Just like I said for the most important or valueable items like family photos or documents that 15gb should be able to back up the stuff which is not easily replacable on your PC.

And Yeah I'm currently working to decrypt files for someone from a ransomware program... I think the people behind that sort of attack are fucking scum, just absolutely the worst type of human beings alive. (would you believe the first time I typed the word in the reply to you I too typo'd it as random... even though it was to correct you on it lol, I don't know how peoples brains are wired when it comes to typing, I almost always find myself typo'ing out Marion.... instead of Mario too online, no clue why, just crossed wires in the grey matter haha.)

Have fun with that! If you need to bruteforce the encryption, that sounds like... well, mostly boring, must also quite desperate. Hopefully there's some weaknesses in the ransomware software. And I agree, the people doing ransomware are total scum. It's probably one of the easiest (illegal) ways to make money on the internet though. No need to scam anyone into giving their credentials or anything. All you have to do is get the program on the victim's computer and you're basically done.

Yeah, some words are really easy to typo... I almost typoed ransomware again. For some reason, I make a lot of typos in English even though I know how words are supposed to be spelled. I don't do the same with my native language (Finnish), but typing English seems to be harder for some reason. I can type and I know the language, but I still make the mistakes. It probably has something to do with the patterns the words in different languages use. For example, English has some weird character patterns Finnish doesn't almost ever have. Or, from your point of view, Finnish might have some really weird patterns compared to English.
