It would also mean someone with an XBox1/PS4 wouldn't need to switch console if their friends have different consoles.

Lol... and who do you think that benefits eventually? MS not sony.

MS has windows and Xbox. The second someone doesn't hsve to buy a PS4 to play COD or whatever new hot game is selling at the time is the second sony starts to lose.

Not unless they offer better exclusives, better services, better tech, etc. That's sort of how they got to where they are to begin with.

Its bot said much, but one of the biggest factors that determine sales is word of mouth. Or simply put, I'm getting what my friends got. If i can just download a game on my my PC and play with all my friends that own a PS4, then i don't need to buy a PS4. How does that favor Sony?

Ask Sony this question because they've allowed PC-PS4 crossplay in the past.

Yes, you are right... We just missed Minecraft making X1 outsell PS4 in the VGC because they are so slow to update the charts, right?

Well Microsoft does have a bigger install base than Sony and Minecraft did help with that.

Come on don't stoop to that level, so now MS has a larger install base than sony cause you can play MS games on windows PC? You do realize MS only gets money from PC games when they are bought from the windows store right?

Windows 10 gaming pc + xbox one = bigger install base than Sony. Deal with it.

Ok, let's be real here.

PS4 > pc gamers who use wins 10 store instead of steam + xbox one. Reality check confirmed.

Here you go buckaroo.

https://newzoo.com/insights/rankings/top-25-companies-game-revenues/

Microsoft wins.

Also, right on your source, it says *based on estimates.

And it's talking about revenue, not profit.

Sony wins.

If we are talking about profits Microsoft wins. Sony loses money every year pretty much unless they sell off their buildings or something.

And don't forget that both Nintendo, Valve and Sony are profiting more with Minecraft  than Microsoft, they paid 2.5 Billions for Microsoft but even so they have to pay the Royalties for all those companies, and the Playstation version of the game isn't being published by Microoft. (I think that the Wii U version also isn't.) so Microsoft is paying in double when a Minecraft game sell on other systems, the owners of the other systems get profit but Microsoft need to get 2.5 Billions of profit to break even.

I'm still waiting to see what is the plan to profit back from this aquisition

Microsoft already broke even a while ago. Microsoft only needed to make millions to break even.

That's hella moving goal posts dude, your link is talking about gaming software revenue, not the other branches of the company. This really just makes you come off as a sore loser who won't acknowledge something that doesn't suit his agenda.

As for your MineCraft post, how does Microsoft spend $2 billion to acquire a company but only need back millions to profit? Are you just putting words together and hoping they stick?

You said "Sony wins" and I said they didn't because they lose money. If you said playstation then yes I could understand your situation a little. Nobody knows exactly what Sony and Microsoft makes in regards to profit in gaming because they are smashed together with entertainment division. I just gave you a link to a credible source which indicates Microsoft is doing better. The sources you gave isn't really credible like wikipedia because people edit it all the time.

Minecraft only needs to make millions because if they kept the 2.5 billion in the bank it would only generate Microsoft millions in interest. So they spend it on Minecraft. Basic business son.

Why would they buy an XB1 so they can play with their friends on PS+?

So they can play with friends who own an XBox1

If you wanted to play with friends, why would you buy the opposite console that your friends are playing on?

Why should Sony care about this problem that affects not even 1% of the gamer population?

If someone wants to play with their friends that badly, they wold have bought the same console.

There is zero doubt that Sony's gaming divison makes FAR more than Microsofts gaming divison.

"In FY2015, Sony's Operating Profit for the games division was 88b yen. The last time it was this high was back in FY2002."

"Sony are on track to deliver the biggest annual profit their games division has ever seen should they hit this years forecast."

Sony's gaming divison is performing incredibly well at the moment, Microsofts gaming divison is not close.
