Announcing early wasn't smart in my (and many others) opinion. I wonder what the thinking was behind it. I think they anticipated the Neo will be released soon and attempted a bit of damage control. They deliberately announced some specs to make the Neo look inferior and also announcing first doesn't make it look like they are copying Sony.

That's exactly what they did. They knew it was likely that a PS4 slim and a Neo would launch later in the year and all they had was a slim, so they got a pencil and a piece of paper and wrote down some high end specs and flogged them off as the Scorpio. Now they're locked into that strategy with no turning back. I expect the Scorpio to come with a tower, a keyboard, mouse and possibly a controller for around $700.

I'm surprised the $250 Xbox One isn't higher on list.

Give it a few hours.

Yeah, with the XB1 S 500 gb and 1 tb models releasing in August as well, I expect the Xbox to have one of its better non-holiday months in August. Both of those bundles look more enticing than the 2tb bare-bones release, to be honest.

Unless Sony cuts price next month (which is possible, though doubtful, I think they're going to wait until the exact moment the Neo is revealed) I see it going to Xbox as well. I also don't think Sony cares that much about a month or two of NPD losses, to be honest.

They clearly don't. It would hae been easy to add TLOU in with the COD bundle just to spur more sales but they haven't. Sony have a target of 22m sales in this fiscal year and that's all they'll be concentrating on.

The target is actually 20m for the fiscal year, not 22m.

You're right but if they didn't majorly undercut the PS4 they would get crushed. This must work for them one way or the other, it's just that the PS4 makes more.

We saw a 9% drop for their Xbox division and since then they've brought the launch of the 2tb Slim forward from 29th August to the 2nd of August and are now adding games before they've even tested the water. Next year, as the Scorpio gets closer and closer, people will be more inclined to wait. I'm expecting MS to announce that the Scorpio could be a ridiculously high price in order to try and minimise the affect on the Slim. Their strategy is a train wreck.

The 2TB SKU was never late August, that was a placeholder date. MCVUK had the August 2nd date a week after the S was announced.

Game consoles are now sold with games along with them. Going from having games bundled to then having no games would make more people inclined to wait for holiday deals.

Also Scorpio won't be marketed as a "next gen" console, but as an upgraded Xbox One, so it'll have a high price compared to the XB1. Scorpio is the high end XB1, S is the budget XB1.

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

Where do you think the vanilla PS4 would be if it was $300? It would be above the COD bundle which generally holds a position in the top 20. Here we have a NEW XB1 slim console that goes for $300 (already $50 cheaper than the PS4 COD bundle) and they feel it necessary to add in 2 Halo games. It doesn't matter how you look at that it's an insane strategy that can only lead to future customers waiting for those inevitable deals. Add to that the obsessive focus MS has for Christmas and you can see how that's a recipe for disaster for everything but the last 3 to 4 months of the year. It's a train wreck of a strategy.

Of course the $299 PS4 would be above the $349 bundle, but, MS is already preparing for the holidays. This will be their main cheap holiday bundle and they can keep it going into 2017 just like they have been doing with the Gears bundle. We will most likely see MS trying to make more $349/$399 bundles with newer games, but the $299 bundle is meant to generate as much sales as possible, and bundling in a 2 year old game and a recent game that'll make money off of microtransactions is a safe move to do.

MS have already priced the XB1 below the PS4 by $50, and if PS4 has a game bundled in at $349, the XB1 will have a game bundled in at $299.

I'm guessing that when Sony need to clear the channels for the Neo/Slim they'll bundle the COD and UC4 bundles in with another game and sell them for $350 and do the same with the vanilla PS4 and sell that for $300. Maybe TLOUR/UCC. They'll also likely say it's for a limited time only.

It's obvious MS wants to have a win for August NPD with the crazy deals and Slim launching at the beginning of the month. Lol, I would love for Sony to announce the PS4 will be $299 on August 1st and just completely dash those hopes. Of course, I doubt they will, since they are fine with just raking in the cash on HW, as well as SW.
