Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is The Hype For Final Fantasy XV Dying?

I think people are finally showing their limits to Square Enix's bull. First, their annoucement last year that they would announce the release date this year (really, who announces the release date annoucement?), then the fiasco with the Ultimate Collector's Edition, and finally, a piss-poor E3 showing. Add to that what seems to be downgraded graphics, a battle system that few seem to be keen on, and seemingly large empty open spaces.

Personally, I have the Ultimate Collector's Edition preordered but will not open it and will wait until reviews are out. I might end up trying to scalp someone for twice the price if I feel Square Enix has churned out crap again and just get a standard edition.

What does it matter? Why do you need hype so many months before release? They will crank up the hype again a month before release and everything will be fine.

Are you referring to FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns? Those spin-off games weren't even made by the team that is making FFXV, I don't see how you can relate them to it.

Referring to XIII and XIV(OG)

XIII was directed by Toriyama, who has zero to do with XV and some of the biggest problems with FFXIII, like excessive linearity and lack of towns, are actually being solved in FFXV. XIV is an MMO, and a game like that is developed with different priorities to a single player game. I think using older titles to say that the newest title will suck is a weak argument because those older titles had different creative teams and design priorities to the newest title.

It's because FF fans keep wanting the next FF to be like it was during it's glory years and Square isn't interested in giving them that.

The reason I brought up those games is to mention how SE has been struggling to reinvent FF in every mainline title since FFX to poor results - XII being the only bright spot.  They couldn't figure out what they were doing with XIII so they had XIII Versus on the side - which is now XV - in development hell in attempts to reinvent the reinvention.

My basis for XV being off is how the E3 trailer(I think?) where he fights the summon is being cited as "epic" when in reality it's a QTE snorefest.  All other demos and trailers show how pretty it is(the "SE Kool-Aid" I mentioned) and what gameplay is shown is a whole lotta nothin'.  It's great that they're bringing back towns, as odd as that is to say, as well as non-linearity though I'll belive it when I see it.  However, the hype surrounding XV is far too similar to the hype XIII got which boiled down to "look how pretty this game is #DayOne."

I doubt that.

Personally Its because of the combat system.

I want Final Fantasy to stick to "active time battle" or "turn based" or some such, with full controll over intire party, instead of just 1 guy hack n slashing in some sorta action rpg.

If I wanted to play a good action RPG, Id play something else than final fantasy.

I can only speak for myself, but it looks less interesting to me the more I see of it.

The graphics are spectacular, for sure, but the gameplay just looks boring. Anyway I hope I'm wrong.

The longer people have to wait for a game and in turn the more they see of it before release, the less hype there will be. We've been waiting a long time and seen a lot of this game, even had 2 demos. People know kinda how it will play already, so hype will be lower than say No Man's Sky or when Fallout 4 was announced only 6 months before release.

Hmm, pie.

Square-Enix is focusing too much on battle system. They had to produce an amazing story trailer for E3.
