Forums - Movies & TV - Idiots complaining about Moana

That must be the most serious incident since all the Sultans complaining about their image in Aladdin.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Maui never struck me as "fat" or "obese", he seemed more like an extreme level of "functionally muscular".

What we see in actors like Dwayne Johnson and Hugh Jackman are indeed strong and in shape, but those types of bodies are largely for show.

Like I said, that doesn't mean I believe I could take them out. They're strong. But functionally strong is a different thing, and comes with a totally different body type. Just as an example, look at practically anyone in a strongman competition.

They're not "shaped", like body builders are. They are, essentially, a raw lump of muscle coated in a layer fat.

he's not fat at all. Maybe you need glasses?
Having tons of muscles doesn't mean you're fat.

Indeed, I mean if you look at his waist it's actually in quite a bit from his giant chest size.

Also... it's a god damn disney character, don't spread the fact that idiots are idiots around to more sites than tumblr, just leave their shit be and ignore it OP, if you spread it you'll just have them thinking that others talking about what they bring up makes it important.

Weren't people just raving over this guy?

The "Persian Hulk" they call him?

He's a huge, barrel chested power lifter. Looks a lot like Maui's body type to me.

Maybe people should be fat shaming the Persian Hulk instead of praising him.

"Morbidly obese"?

Good lord. The guy looks like he could fight MMA or play in the NFL.

The Polynesian voice actor for Maui

The animated image of Maui

Why couldn't that have simply mo-capped The Rock?

If Polynesian characters of all shapes and sizes were present a lot on movie and TV screens this would be a non-issue. But the fact that Polynesian characters are so rarely represented and even more rarely the central heroes of movies and TV puts it in a different context.

Also, pre-colonial polynesians were not fat, obesity only became significant in polynesians after western diets were introduced. So any traditional image of Maui in polynesian culture would not be of a big fat dude. So it's not historically or mythologically accurate. Obesity in the Polynesian community is a major problem. The Polynesian community doesn't need a fat archetype of it created in popular culture. Outside of Australia, New Zealand and Polynesia itself, how many people have actually met or know any Polynesians? How many people even know Khaal Drogo and the Rock are Polynesian?

If anyone has a right to be offended at the fictional portyrayal of a culture in popular entertainment it's the people of that culture. They are the ones who are most interested and concerned about the health and development of their people.

It might be minor to you, but to some Polynesian people this stuff matters.

Wait so you think the issue is the fact that there is hot looking Polynesian guys and it isn't right that one of them is shown to look like this, only 2 of the 3 people in that meme you link are from WWE, the WWE who also have/had both

and

On their roster, both of whom have a figure closer to the Disney character and have/had been pushed to great heights in the industry, just because these men aren't what playgirl wouldn't consider as being "hot" that doesn't mean they're any less capable of representing their Polynesian heritage, to suggest they all should be Rock lookalikes is stereotyping to the max.

He might be built like a solid tank but he ain't got no nips. Poor guy.

Why is that a bad thing? I can't really think of a single reason why a guy would want nipples in the first place, other than for piercings anyways.

Pinch your nips, feels good man!

The person that first came to mind for me was Chris Fuamatu-Maʻafala, a former full back in the NFL.

And here we have obese in action.

Or maybe one of his brothers, who were also excellent athletes:

But we can't have anyone with a layer of fat in a family film?  Because why?  That makes no sense to me.

That tank of a man wearing the 99 top... I actually pity the people having to run into that, like I mourn their bones breaking against the wall of humanity.

And yeah Umaga (Eddie Fatu) wasn't the healthiest of men during his time in the WWE but Samoa Joe is an absolute ball of muscles, he looks heavy but he moves around the ring like a high flyer at times, it is just all muscle in there.

Again, sad that playgirl models phsique is required to be considered "healthy" I wonder if the same thing was said the other way around for a heavy set/muscular girl in a film would it be fine to complain about her body being shown?

Wow at the speed of that guy... just checked first youtube vid with his name on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyHSVjQ6jnk for that size to move so fast, insane.
