The PS5 Exists.

I'm actually shocked about how low this is. Don't forget this also includes Vita and PS3 owners.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Both Vita and PS3 have free online play though. Hence, without paid online play on PS4 these numbers would be a fraction.

Frankly, its a great number of subscribers and this is why Sony chose to charge for online play. Its probably the most profitable part of having a console these day.

And for the record, i have zero problem paying 50 Euro a Year, im fine with it.

Sure, but that still means more than half of the ps4 install base never plays online multiplayer. Single and local multiplayer are still the biggest target audience. Actually I have ps+ and the last time I played online, erm, dark souls 2 I think. That was on ps3. Ah, I played Journey again on ps4 and saw someone else around!

It tripled in Jan 2014
http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/01/30/playstation-plus-subscribers-tripled-since-ps4-launch/

And reached 7.9 million in october 2014
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-plus-reaches-7-9-million-subscribers/1100-6423306/
That also states: The company did not say how many of the subscribers are PlayStation 4 owners (Sony has sold 13.5 million PS4s to date). However, back in May, Sony CEO Kaz Hirai revealed that around half of all PS4 owners had a subscription.
Thus about 1.15 million non ps4 ps+ subscribers back in 2014

And as the graph shows, the stick is far more effective than the carrot.

I imagine charaging for online play is incredibly profitable with no significant work needed to be done. Which is why they got in that business.

Even if you don't play online much its still great for PS+ games. But its online players that keep that service so profitable. As its known there were relatively few subscirbers before PS4.

I've had PS+ for about 4 or 5 years now, and i never play online multiplayer. I just have PS+ for the free games every month.
