Forums - General Discussion - Is becoming a vegetarian/vegan worth it?

Giving up or minimising intake of alcohol, soft drinks, junk foods and processed foods like bread. Drinking more glasses of water per day for hydration.

Lost 20 kilos (44 pounds) in 2014 without going vegetarian.

Me too, even without lots of exercise. Just eating a bit less than you normally do makes you drop weight like crazy.

Yep; fewer meals, smaller portions, and less sugar did the trick for me.

What you should do is ask people who do not sacrifice meat and are still being healthy and losing weight. The notion that a vegetarian lifestyle is inherently better or healthier is pure bullshit. It's all about moderation.

Me to. Lost 2 stones without giving up meat. Another tip, Eat nuts and dried fruit instead of chocolates and sweets.

Humans eat everything brcause it's their nature, imho we should stick to that. The only problem with meat consumption is the quantity and the quality that are wrong in many countries *cough cough US*

That and I will fight for my Salami (which is plural people, the singular is Salame, get your words fixed) and Sausages

It's been almost 11 years since I last ate meat. Never going back. It's about more than just making a healthy decision, but an ethical and environmentally friendly one.

After a 3 hour cycle ride nothing tastes better than a juicy burger, grilled sausages or pan seared salmon. I don't eat meat every day but wouldn't want to miss it.

So true. My cousin came back from India where he was back trekking. He said he came across a place that was wrapping fresh fish in herbs and spices and then grilling it over a stacked open fire device where the top had fresh mangos and lemon slowly dripping down into the fish. He said after a long trek, having any sort of meat was like having a piece of heaven.

Additionally, pulled short rib burgers with crispy fried onions... Yummmm

I lost around 25 kg with a diet that includes meat. Going vegan/vegetarian won't make you healthier or make you lose weight, take into account that people have to compensate a lack of vitamin with those diets. Sounds so unnatural...

Besides you make cooks around the world waste time trying to cook your recipes. Do you even know how much time it takes to make some sprouted bread?

Yeah, same here. Losing weight was just kind of a happy bonus. The meat industry in the United States is such a mess right now. I would never suggest everyone should drop meat from their diets, but eating less meat and ingesting meat from sustainable and cruelty-free sources goes a long way to making the entire process more viable and more sanitary, less destructive to the environment, and less torturous to animal life.
