Forums - Gaming Discussion - Square Enix: PS4 version of Rise of the Tombraider is not canceled

I'll get it used some months after release if i don't have anything else to play, the first reboot was really good but nothing amazing plus you can't expect me to pay 60$ for a year old game.

But we do it all out the time.

Sometimes we pay full price or close to it for REALLY old games. Twilight Princess HD, TLoU Remastered, Mass Effect 2, any game with a GotY Edition. We do it all the time. It's not like the game is bad, now. It's still one of the absolute best games of the generation, in my opinion.

That not make sense, that is reason to make TR more quickly to come on ps4 the best selling console
Maybe the big U4 sales make them to stay off a little more

I won;t buy it, I bought it for 20 euro's on a kinguin sale, it runs well on my pc its a very enjoyable entry in the series I am sure this rumour is false and it will be released on PS4 for a sellout 60 euro/dollar lol

You are right that it will sell good for 60. But i would normally wait one year on a game like this so it would drop to around 40, since I already am waiting 1 year I'll wait as much as needed for 20,00... still haven't bought any of the remasters on PS4 this gen because the price is still too high.

If they're trying to "recoup" money I don't understand why they went to MS.

What are you talking about?

If the game did not do as well on the xbox one and pc as they wanted, recouping any money or making a profit would be possible only on the PS4 at that point.

If the game didn't do well on PC and Xbox, then MS probably took a hit. SE went to MS to lower their risks and make more money. That's generally the idea of a money hat.

There will always be publishers/developers that go to MS if they can get funding or lower financial risks.

Even the OG Xbox had exclusives with a tiny fraction of the PS2 userbase.

And that can damage a brand.  ROTTR after the successful 2013 version would of released to mega hype if the pc and ps4 versions were delayed.  The brand is definitely damaged for sure and we seen this happen countless times last gen with many taking pay days to put their Japanese games on 360 either exclusively or timed exclusive. Will they ever learn?  Don't bet against Playstation.  You just can't win.

You assume the TR brand is damaged based on nothing really. You know what REALLY damages a brand? Bad games. Such as the critically panned Angel of Darkness.

I can't think of a single IP that was hurt/ruined by Xbox 360 exclusivity. I'd like to know some of these IPs you think Xbox exclusivity did irreparable damage to.

Why we havent heard about the PS4 version as of yet. I think its likley that SE has cancelled the PS4 version altogether, because of the poor sales on Xbox One and PC, and i am not the only one thinking this way articles down below.

http://www.parentherald.com/articles/51371/20160627/rise-of-the-tomb-raider-ps4-shelved-because-of-possible-low-sales.htm

http://www.chattsportsnet.com/tech/rise-tomb-raider-ps4-release-square-enix-still-undecided/2978/

Unlikely. Playstation is the largest consumer of tomb raider. Ports are not that expensive. That would be throwing a lot of $ down the drain. And there is a logical reason for no announcement; namely an NDA prohibiting marketing the game for a competing platform for a full year as part of the exclusivity agreement with Microsoft.

Edit: There are no sources on this rumor either.
