Forums - Gaming Discussion - Square Enix: PS4 version of Rise of the Tombraider is not canceled

I didn't realize it was even an option not to release it. Wouldn't a PS4 release recoup some development costs? There's a huge install base there, many of whom have been waiting for the game.

Am I missing something?

there is also a huge install base on PS3 yet Square Enix doesnt release Starc Ocean 5 for PS3 outside of Japan. In their eyes, porting games is too much money

They haven't cancelead anything. Anyone expecting a anouncement of an already released game on E3 was just nuts. Amazon still sells pre-orders for the game.

Why would they cancel releasing it on ps4 because of low sales? All the work has already been done, there's zero doubt that the money they'd have to spend to put it on ps4 would be earned back several times over.

IF it isn't coming to ps4 that is NOT the reason.

Man they better release this on PS4! One of my most anticipated games of the year tbh. Would legitimately consider buying an Xbox One just to play RotTR if the PS4 version is cancelled...

It wont be cancelled for PS4 because the game is already made, and has more userbase so higher chance of selling more.

But if it is cancelled then we can say that MS killed TR lol

It's being held back until March so it can launch on PS4/NX and Ouya at the same time! Really though I would take this rumour with a pinch of salt, SE know that they'd earn more by releasing this on the ps4 than to not do it, not only because of the product being pretty much complete (even if they wanted to get lazy and just bring over the X360 version to the ps4) but also if they don't bring it over... the rebooted tomb raider franchise dies with Rise of the Tomb Raider on the X1/360

Also there is a rule about copy pasting articles from other sites and an OP which has nothing added but that. It's plagiarism at it's finest to do this in the OP.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

it should haven been at least announced with a release date for pre order by now

Not if they signed a NDA with Microsoft about staying quiet until an agreed date.

The PC versions of Dead Rising 3 and Ryse were also announced quite close to their release, not many months in advance.

If this ends up being true (which I still doubt), I'd find it both hilarious and ironic since the 2 most recent entries in the TR franchise are arguably the best in the entire series, but because the first reboot didn't meet SE's original sales projections and the follow up wasn't released on many gamers' preferred console of choice, the series now might actually die out (or at least get shelved for awhile) after over a decade of mediocre installments that somehow managed to sell a ton only because they were released on a PlayStation console.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Of course it's coming but why would Sony waste their time advertising a game that gave it sloppy seconds 12 months later. Sony aren't going to fall over themselves to help make this a big success for SE. these publishers need to learn that going with MS over PS is a bad option.
