It damages potential sales more than the brand, but that money is likely covered by the company that did the money hat.

CoD is a terrible comparison because it has a new release every year. So if a CoD is a year late then you have two games the next year.

Tomb Raider is not an annual IP and RotTR is a great game. So it'll do fine on PS4. A bad game coming a year late would definitely be hurt in potential sales, given bad games rely on people buying them before its known they suck. Great games still thrive even when they are late.

It damages sales thus the brand.  If people weren't bothered with ROTTR they're less likely to get hyped about the next.

One thing this fiasco has benefited is uncharted 4. Better game and more ps4 owners will choose this instead.  Delighted for Sony.

I get what youre saying, you just cant prove it. Youre speculating. When SE is getting ready to launch a new Tomb Raider, RotTR will be free on PS+ or sell for a few dollars. So a large number of people will play it eventually.

Uncharted 4 is not the better game, its a different experience. More people will buy RotTR thanks to multiplat. But lets not have this argument.

Nah uncharted 4 is better.  Game of the generation thus far.

I'm speculating and I believe I do so correctly.  You can see my point which is good.

You are correct however. Making ROTTR free in a few years before they release the next one will be smart.  Could win some people back over.  I'm not getting ROTTR as I feel no hype after playing U4 but I'll either get it next year on sale or wait a few years to get it free on ps plus.

Tomb Raider as a brand has been severely damaged. As many have pointed out, TR2013 only crawled to the higher sales numbers after going into the bargain bin on console, and dirt dirt cheap on PC shortly after release.

The mismanagement of RoTTR was almost textbook bad.

(1)- Exclusive on a console that is nearly irrelevant in TR's biggest fanbase region : EU, and 2nd place even in the strongest X1 markets of US/UK.

(2)- Released into an absolutely worst-case release window, where it got devoured by FO4 and the following holiday rush of the big multiplats.

(3)- Released first on a console not really established to the brand. It would be akin to Mass Effect 2 releasing exclusively on PS3 during gen7, just nonsensical.

(4)- PS4 version delayed long enough to get jammed against a sure deluge of major multiplats as 8th gen really hits its stride.

I doubt RoTTR will chart outside of Europe on PS4 in launch month, and I also doubt we see another AAA budget TR game for at least 5 years if not longer.

Personally, I preferred TR 1 and 2 to anything that followed. I especially loathed the QTE fest and general tone of TR2013 and RoTTR. Lara went from fun/cheeky/Brendiana Jones to something so bland/forgettable that it just seems like a waste of the franchise. It would be like remaking the Goonies, only this time super emo/dark/self-serious. You can tell they were heavily influenced by Uncharted's success, but their writing is nowhere near as good, and after completing the two recent games I would struggle to name a single character besides Lara, and if I didn't already remember her name from the franchise I wouldn't even remember her.

For the people that enjoy it, great, more power to them, but I just found them aggressively derivative and mediocre, like a Zach Snyder film.

I disagree, but that's why many games exist. Right?

Again, you can't point to a single IP that was ruined by some sort of exclusivity or timed exclusivity. RotTR will do fine on PS4, not even multiple mediocre titles have been able to kill Tomb Raider.

Did I get it wrong or are you saying RoTR will outsell Uncharted 4?

It doesn't make ANY SENSE not releasing on PS4

Ffs, why are we giving those sites any credit?

Yep, combined.

The reboot sold like 8 million and growing.

I see... that will be a wait and see game.

Uncharted have been rising every new game so it could even mean 8-10M in this iteration, and considering Reboot had the Remaster, a lot more platforms, were in a release of new gen and etc I don't think RoTR will surpass it.

But if RoTR end up outselling UC4 good for them.

I guess it depends on how you look at it.

I think TR2013 will vastly outsell RoTTR after the same timeframe, due to the terrible handling of RoTTR (release date, marketing, backlash, no PS3 version (hello Europe). But let's say it does sell 8M. UC4 will probably end up somewhere around 9-10M, and most of those will be full MSRP or close to it. TR2013 hit the high sales by being bargain-binned REALLY fast after release on PC first, and console soon after. SteamSpy had listings of 3.5M+ TR2013 owners on PC, and on Steam it was less than half price within months, and then $20, $10, and now $5. Additionally, the game came free with AMD GPUs for a period of time, and those deals in the industry are heavily discounted. It's impossible to know the details, but AMD probably paid less than $15 for the keys, and probably far less in reality. Subtract the 3.5M PC sales and you're looking at~4.5M on consoles (PS3/360/X1/PS4 combined). The falloff should be somewhere near 50% from TR2013 to RoTTR.

Add all of that up, and beyond simple unit count, which should favor UC4, in revenue there should be a gargantuan gap.

That's a lot of speculation. I'll just say there is no backlash from the average gamer and most of you that are bitter will still get RotTR eventually cause its awesome.

Between all four platforms RoTR is going to get a nice revenue and they got a nice payday from MS. So no point is discussing that with no exact info.

Also, ND games would generally have lower sales figures with mass bundling excluded. UC4 will be no exception.
