If the game didn't do well on PC and Xbox, then MS probably took a hit. SE went to MS to lower their risks and make more money. That's generally the idea of a money hat.

What are you going on about? I think you misunderstood me at some point.

I think I did understand you, but it doesn't really matter.

Why would they shut down their only chance of recouping their money?

If they're trying to "recoup" money I don't understand why they went to MS.

I'll reword the post you first replied to from me. If SE projected that they would make X amount of profit from the xbox one and pc versions of that game but didn't then their only chance to reach that desired profit levels would be by releasing the game on the PS4. it would make no sense for SE to cancel the PS4 verison.

And that can damage a brand.  ROTTR after the successful 2013 version would of released to mega hype if the pc and ps4 versions were delayed.  The brand is definitely damaged for sure and we seen this happen countless times last gen with many taking pay days to put their Japanese games on 360 either exclusively or timed exclusive. Will they ever learn?  Don't bet against Playstation.  You just can't win.

You assume the TR brand is damaged based on nothing really. You know what REALLY damages a brand? Bad games. Such as the critically panned Angel of Darkness.

I can't think of a single IP that was hurt/ruined by Xbox 360 exclusivity. I'd like to know some of these IPs you think Xbox exclusivity did irreparable damage to.

No its definitely damaging releasing it on the most popular platform a year late.

If Activision released cod on ps4 a year late it would damage it too. It's just business 101

I hear ya, but it sounds like there is some presumption it under performed when it sold at par with the previous for the platforms its on.

Eventually coming to PS4 was certainly part of the deal to make even greater profits.

CoD is a terrible comparison because it has a new release every year. So if a CoD is a year late then you have two games the next year.

Tomb Raider is not an annual IP and RotTR is a great game. So it'll do fine on PS4. A bad game coming a year late would definitely be hurt in potential sales, given bad games rely on people buying them before its known they suck. Great games still thrive even when they are late.

I was debating against the idea that SE canceled the PS4 version because of "low sales" on xbox one and pc. I never compared the sales of all tomb raider games but what I think of the sales doesn't really matter because SE had their expectations for Rise of the Tomb Raider on the xbox one and PC. Only they know if the game met those expectations.

ROTR is a great game. A must experience game.

Looks like ps4 owners might not be able to play it, shame because it is better than uncharted 4 imo.

Ah, I agree.

Even late RotTR has the potential to be one of SE's best selling games on PS4. Its a silly rumor.

Why we havent heard about the PS4 version as of yet. I think its likley that SE has cancelled the PS4 version altogether, because of the poor sales on Xbox One and PC, and i am not the only one thinking this way articles down below.

http://www.parentherald.com/articles/51371/20160627/rise-of-the-tomb-raider-ps4-shelved-because-of-possible-low-sales.htm

http://www.chattsportsnet.com/tech/rise-tomb-raider-ps4-release-square-enix-still-undecided/2978/

Unlikely. Playstation is the largest consumer of tomb raider. Ports are not that expensive. That would be throwing a lot of $ down the drain. And there is a logical reason for no announcement; namely an NDA prohibiting marketing the game for a competing platform for a full year as part of the exclusivity agreement with Microsoft.

Edit: There are no sources on this rumor either.

It damages sales thus the brand.  If people weren't bothered with ROTTR they're less likely to get hyped about the next.

One thing this fiasco has benefited is uncharted 4. Better game and more ps4 owners will choose this instead.  Delighted for Sony.
