Forums - Gaming Discussion - Demoed both the HTC VIve and PlayStation VR yesterday.

I was able to try out the HTC Vive (at the Microsoft Store) and PS VR (At Best Buy) yesterday.

Thoughts on presentation:

HTC and Microsoft have their shit together as far as the demo is concerend. Microsoft Store employees are trained on running it and explaining it. They have a sign up and consent form to fill out. The overall experience was FAR more professional.

The PS VR demo is ran by someone PlayStation must hire and train. Well kinda train. Person didn't seem to know much at all. The PS4 was having issues loading the VR software AND the person didn't know how to use the contollers. They also had no sign up.. or way of managing a line etc.

So. Right of the bat.. HTC Vive just felt like a better experience because of the process..

Thoughts on hardware:

While the PS VR was more comfortable, in a short time my face was sweaty because of the rubber eye covering. The image on the PS VR was fuzzy and NO WHERE near the experience on the HTC Vive. Was not as bright or clear. I would say just a STEP up from my GearVR. But the unit is better then the GearVR overall. Using the controller (did not get to use move) feels odd in VR. But we are talking just a $399 plus cost of PS4 experience here. I was able to move around a bit (although the guy said they are told to make people sit) and it did track that motion a bit (not as good as HTC).  I think its evident that the exerience is more mass market and not "premium". But again. Much lower entrance cost..

The HTC Vive and touch controllers offered a WAY better experience. The resolution and crispness of image was SIGNIGANT compared to the PS VR (also at $799 and cost of VR capabale PC this was expected) .  The touch controllers were fantastic and being able to move around a large area made me SO excited for VR. The headset did not feel bulky after a bit (did at first) .. I did NOT sweat while using it and I did it for MORE time then I used the PS VR for. After using  I did have read marks and lines on my face for a bit. They also both mess your hair up.. lol

Final:

So just a quick talk about my experince. The HTC Vive with Touch controllers and ROOM scale is pretty amazing. Hopefully the costs will come down next year to make it more accesisble, because THIS is the future of VR. The PS VR  to HTC Vive comparison is really the same as comparing PC to CONSOLE for gaming. More easily accessible , cheaper, but NOT a "premium" experience with all the bells and whistles. But PS VR is likely to be what the "masses" get to experience...They both were great..  But the HTC Vive was amazing.

I'll probably test the PSVR at best buy this week. I went there yesterday and saw they had one.

The PSVR is way cheaper, so it makes sense that its not a top of the line VR experience.

HTC Vive or nothing for me, the sony headset seems like its an "ok" step in model but its not half as good as the vive, plus, the pc just offers more games and they are much cheaper so overall I think if I use the headset for 2 years I should be out cheaper, just because of the insane prices of the playstation store lol

Yea from what I heard, the resolution is super important to the vr experience so it makes sense. If I were to ger a vr device, it will 110% be one with the highest res.

I should hope the $800 VR headset running on $800+ hardware is better than the $400 one running on $350 Hardware xD.

Razer's OSVR has better specs then the PS VR and is just $399. So better SPECS can be CHEAPER...   Also..  The PSVR is $499 for comparable (motion and camera) and with the RX 480.. You will be able to BUILD a PC that has BETTER specs then PS4.5 (likely) for just $449.   So in the end we are talking about a $300 difference. Room scale and chaperone system ARE big differences .. just as much as the resolution..   SO I feel the $300 difference is well worth it for a MASSIVELY better experience. Because right now GearVR on an S7 is about the same as a PS VR.. and that is $99 plus phone cost.. so..

But.. I think I mentioned SEVERAL times that the cost difference is a BIG factor.  BUT..     But HIGHER cost does NOT always mean better experience..  How did that work for launch PS4 vs X1 ?? So it IS something THAT still needs to be explained .....

Reeks of negative agenda.

Clearly not in line with what can be read on NeoGAF's threads.

And Sony fans claiming it has higher res then PC and is just as good or better then PC VR.

Who here is saying that?

Huh? I own a GearVR .. and will be getting a PS VR..  Had a PS4 since launch.. So not sure why I would be negative about it.  Just giving MY opinion after having USED a GearVR a lot.. and now testing both a PS VR and HTC Vive..      The BIG benefit for the PS VR is movement detection, instead of just head...  I was talking stickly visuals here..   And the BEST games on GearVR aren't far behind WHAT i saw on PS VR..    I'm sorry NeoGaf's users don't agree with MY opinion..
