Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Neo Could Be 5.5tf ($399 - $599)

I think he meant £ 599, wich could very well be true by the time Neo releases. :-p

Sony won't be pushing $399 price limit. They knows it very well what happens; either it will sell less or make them bankrupt. I don't believe it.

What happens is that you won't take a loss. I bet that sounds quite good in their ears. It's not like they're dependent on Neo sales. People will buy it when they're ready or not. Who gives a shit? It really is a win win for them. People with a lot of money will buy now and the rest will first buy the old PS4 and then double dip when they're ready. Sony can't lose with Neo.

Or can you tell me a reason why Sony would want or need to have a very high Neo adoption rate from the beginning? A reason good enough to take a high loss?

500 for a premium ps4 is certainly quite possible, specially if it releases in the next 7-8 months. They could cut it to 400 for Scorpio release next year which certainly won't cost less than 400

600 though, doubtful. Maybe if it's an higher end model with bigger HDD. I mean ffs that's 2x what the PS4 was selling at during Black friday 2015, extra power alone doesn't justify that difference. Add 4k blu ray and big HDD, then it's possible

Exactly. The Neo isn't going to be positioned as the main stream version but rather it will be positioned for the 'enthusiasts'. Of course both will eventually drop in price and the Neo will get closer to a main stream price.

I will laugh my ass off if the NX matches the Neo and Nintendo uses that extra power to push polycount. Sony and Microsoft will likely need to make some "exclusive" games like the N3DS does in order to look as impressive. Not to mention some third parties might want to take advantage of the NX. Sure it can be a port of the other version, but exclusives would undoubtly be higher fidelity.

Of course this won't be happening, but it would be funny if it was. Hell, if it was 4.5 teraflops and a better CPU using Polaris or Zen then it would be a beast in comparison to the Scorpio and Neo. The Jaguar is kind of crappy and the 14nm would be cheaper, more powerful, and energy efficient. Imagine Breath of the Wild with significantly better physics and dynamic weather and onscreen objects. Sure, GPUs do most of that now. Granted, and Zen and Polaris might be "out there" if the Nvidia Pascal rumors are true, which I doubt.

If Nvidia is providing Nintendo with GPU's. They likely will be giving them good GPU's at a massive discount. With their optimization being a little crappy on PC right now. This would give them the much needed boost with developers so games will once again run better on Nvidia GPU's.

I would get your expectations in check.  First of all, I think the console makers are sticking with AMD.  They offer better GPUs for the price and haven't screwed over any of the Big 3 like nVidia has.

2nd, Nintendo has already said they aren't trying to compete in specs. And really they can't if they are trying to push a fusion console by including a handheld/controller in every box. I wouldn't expect anything over 2 Tflops, personally.  And if rumors are true, it'll be closer to 1.5 Tflops.

@ OP

I definitely believe Sony would have upped the clock to push their GPU to 5.5 Tflops, since it was rumored the 4.1 Tflops was only due to them underclocking it.  However, there is NO WAY they are pushing a $599 price.  That would kill the Neo right away.  That may be the price MS is going to try and push, but I fully believe the max Sony is going to go is $449-499.

Not bad for the enthusiast (if true). But at that price.. Think I'll just stick with my PS4 and upgrade my PC.

The pricing hasn't been verified, just the fact we'll be getting info soon and of course the 5.5tf.

Wow. $600 is a ridiculous price. Especially considering that a base model PS4 will end up selling for $250 by the time Scorpio rolls around.

What happens if Neo indeed has 5.5 teraflops, launches this fall and for $499?

This source is completle bullshit. Neo will be exactly what previous information we had says. 4.5 teraflops etc, +500mb shared ram, higher clock cpu and ram etc.

Price is completly unkown.
