Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Neo Could Be 5.5tf ($399 - $599)

This is from GAF:

Here's an interview with Jim Ryan of Sony. It's in French so here's a rough translation:

http://www.jeuxvideo.com/videos/reportages/506714/jim-ryan-sony-il-n-y-aura-aucun-jeu-exclusif-a-la-ps4-neo-e3-2016.htm

  • They don't consider Neo as a new console, it's not a new gen PS4.
  • They didn't want to show the Neo (at E3) because the games are not ready yet.
  • They are aware that some people might be upset by the release of a new and better iteration of the PS4. They think it will be only a communication issue.
  • The idea of the Neo comes directly from the smartphones business model (i.e iterations of the same system).
  • No Neo exclusive games.
  • They don't want to disclose any sales target for the PS4 eco-system.
  • They don't want to confirm if there will be PS4 - PSVR bundle.
  • They don't want to confirm the specs of the Neo and how they will deal with the supposed Tflops difference with Scorpio.

An insider by the name of Proelite then posts this:

Then OsirisBlack is asked is this just a leak to which he replies:

Official [so official information of the Neo should be coming soon]

OsirisBlack, a well-known insider on Neogaf, has leaked a ton of interesting new details about PlayStation 4 Neo (also known as PS4K). According to the OsirisBlack, this PlayStation Neo information comes straight from the reliable developer source. So without further ado, here are all the information OsirisBlack shared by Sony's next big thing in the gaming market.

PlayStation Neo (PS4K) GPU is going to be twice (2X) as powerful as the Standard PlayStation 4 and much faster. The source did not reveal exactly how fast the GPU is going to be, but it was confirmed that it will be running at a higher clock speed while being much smaller than the original.

About the price, the source revealed that PlayStation Neo is currently priced at $399, however, this might go up by a $100 more (to $499) because Sony is considering adding a better CPU which would raise the price. However, the source added that they have been guaranteed that the price of PS4 Neo will be no higher than $499. Furthermore, there will not be any trade-in program for current PlayStation 4 owners at the time of PlayStation Neo launch, but this could change in future.

Coming to the specs, in a thread on Neogaf, OsirisBlack revealed PlayStation Neo will offer 5.5 teraflops performance and will be priced $599 (this figure was also quoted by the INSIDER we talked a few weeks ago), will have a 4K Blu-Ray player and will upscale games that are not natively 4K.

Additionally, OsirisBlack revealed that few lucky developers have already received PlayStation 4K Dev Kits and they are making games that will directly target and take advantage of the higher specifications of the PS4K.

On the topic of performance upgrades for current games when played on PS4K, the source made it clear that there will not be any performance upgrades for current PS4 games by being played on PS4K. Any performance benefits to current (and old PS4 games) for PS4K will arrive via Patch Per Game and Per Developer. When asked if this was going to happen the response was

"Its a possibility but doubtful with the exception of a handful of games."

OsirisBlack went on to list TWO GAMES that are already in development for PlayStation 4K: "Capcom's Deep Down (a big surprise for those who thinks this game is already dead) and GOW4 (this is the exact term written on the sheet, and the only assumption that comes to mind if God of War 4)"

There were more games on the list but these are the ones that stood out the most, according to OsirisBlack.

i hope the insider speaks the truth but 600$ is quite expensive, no Sony console should ever cost like that history has shown

Where's this particular post, because one month ago he posted this.

"In summary.

Better than Jaguar CPU at 2.4 ghz.
1.2 ghz GPU 5.6 teraflops.
8gb of GDDR5x, 280 gb/s.
$499 at launch small loss."

And he said that was his own "musings" and he was the source, so basically a month ago he was just guessing at the specs, does he state what he's saying now is anything more than a guess?

Sounds alright. Bundle with PSVR for 800 would be nice.

That official is in relation to information, so it looks like we'll be getting some official information soon.

Eh, 600 is too expensive.

Sony won't be pushing $399 price limit. They knows it very well what happens; either it will sell less or make them bankrupt. I don't believe it.

I hope this is true, if they improve the specs vastly, I might be compelled to buy one and swap my current PS4 for a XBox one and just own all consoles.

The NEO is advertisted as a high-end ps4, a 5.5 tflop machine for only $399 is not viable. If you think the neo is bad, expect the scorpio to cost more.

It's marketed towards people that are willing to pay more for graphics, if you're not willing to pay more than there's the original ps4, the whole point of having two sku's that run the same games at different fidelity is choice, you have the choice to pay a premium and get a premium experience or not.

I will laugh my ass off if the NX matches the Neo and Nintendo uses that extra power to push polycount. Sony and Microsoft will likely need to make some "exclusive" games like the N3DS does in order to look as impressive. Not to mention some third parties might want to take advantage of the NX. Sure it can be a port of the other version, but exclusives would undoubtly be higher fidelity.

Of course this won't be happening, but it would be funny if it was. Hell, if it was 4.5 teraflops and a better CPU using Polaris or Zen then it would be a beast in comparison to the Scorpio and Neo. The Jaguar is kind of crappy and the 14nm would be cheaper, more powerful, and energy efficient. Imagine Breath of the Wild with significantly better physics and dynamic weather and onscreen objects. Sure, GPUs do most of that now. Granted, and Zen and Polaris might be "out there" if the Nvidia Pascal rumors are true, which I doubt.

If Nvidia is providing Nintendo with GPU's. They likely will be giving them good GPU's at a massive discount. With their optimization being a little crappy on PC right now. This would give them the much needed boost with developers so games will once again run better on Nvidia GPU's.
