Forums - General Discussion - WOW! In 8 hours the UK economy has lost $350 BILLION! Country drops overnight from 5th to 6th economy in the world!

Are you ashamed of your Leave vote

yes 43 14.98%

no 124 43.21%

didnt vote Leave 115 40.07%

It not the end of the world. GDP is measured in US dollars. A weeker pound means its value in dollars is less. Hence the drop from fith to sixth. Currencies fluctuate all the time. Admittedly the drop was pretty sharp and sudden but that was to be expected. Let's see what happens in the next few weeks/months before wecan decided if it was a right or wrong decision.

Around the Network

One thing is certain these last 2 days though, everyone seems to have gone from being budding Zoo Management Experts 2 weeks ago to now being masters of EU law and policies.

I'm amazed at the multi-talentedness of the internet!

I've my own feelings on this matter of course, which basically boil down to "fuck... sake..." but outside of that, wait and see really rather than reading one article and burning your house down because it's worthless or reading an article from the other side and gloat over how UK has suddenly become a bastion of power. Of course there are 2 opinions of exactly what is going on right now, and the truth and final story will end up looking like neither of them, probably somewhere right in the middle.

Ireland's emergency meeting of government has come out with a cool statement though, for any English people who had elderly family living over here, they said that any pensions awarded to UK residents who choose Ireland to retire in will continue to get any benefits they had been awarded so they could continue to live here. So if you guys had any fears that a retired member of your family would have to move back from Ireland, that shouldn't be the case now.

Well, can't say we weren't warned but people were still stupid enough to believe the lies and vote to leave.

A lot of my friends are genuinely contemplating leaving the country (I'm talking born and bred Brits here, not disillusioned EU migrants that at least have somewhere to go back to). Personally I will have to wait and see what the effect will be when the dust settles.

Never been more ashamed to be British. We're the joke of the World at the moment and half the population don't even realize it.

No, you should be proud. And while some may see you as a joke, millions of others see you as heroes. And overnight we are already feeling the effects. A common agreement about (forced) distribution of migrants in the EU is very unlikely now.

Such a great day. So much respect to the independent and glorious nation that is the United Kingdom!

And yet this vote will ensure scots get another vote to leave the UK (and who says if NI are that far behind)... not so much a glorious United Kingdom anymore... more a broken UK... in fact lets just put the word UK to bed because its not going to be needed anymore.
