Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Yo-kai Watch......I just don't get it

Tagged games:

As a long time Pokemon fan, the hype that is surrounding Yo-kai Watch, especially in Japan, as a Pokemon-alternative had me really interested in this game. So about 2 weeks ago i purchased the game and just got around to play it for a while, now i am around 6 hours into the game and i just don't get what all the fuss is about (?) I mean I felt the charm at the beginning being a new Pokemon like IP from the developers of Level 5 and just in general being something new and all but the charm wore off really fast and i am not even motivated enough by this game to finish it.
So my question goes to all the people who are enjoying Yo-kai Watch is ''What is it that you like about the game?'' or ''What is it about this game that captivated millions of people?'' Maybe i am just overlooking something, because I am really trying to like this game!

It's just not for you. I personally love it, but if you're playing the game looking for a Pokemon alternative then you will be disappointed. Plus it's targeted towards a younger audience than Pokemon. Sure, it has its similarities to Pokemon but to say it is like Pokemon is a mistake. It's a completely different monster. It's more like DigimonStory: CyberSleuth or Persona than it is Pokemon, to me. Mechanic wise

I haven't played it, but it is worth noting that the sales started trending upwards in Japan largely due to the success of the anime (if I am recalling correctly). The multimedia approach is largely what helped it to become such a huge success.

The mistake many people have committed is that they think it's meant to be a new Pokemon. It's not. It's simply another turn based RPG with spirits.

I'm not a huge fan of it(dislike battle style), but the concept itself is great. Instead of being Mr hero, the main character just sets out to live a normal life.

The anime is also miles ahead of the pokemon anime.

As for level 5, I'll always recognize them for the Professor Layton series.

You sure about that? I've heard nothing but bad things...

The anime isn't that bad. It does have its cringeworthy moments but it isn't as drawn out as Pokemon has become. Both of them aren't that good tbh.

Don't forget they're both for kids. I mean, it's better than seeing ash battle team rocket 1000 times and never become the pokemon champion
