And you wonder why you haven't made the mod team. You can't ban people for putting "opinion" in their title nor does it mean that they're trolling.

I take it, you haven't seen a single "Opinion" thread that was trolling in the last couple of weeks.

Of course, I've seen 'em but "opinion" threads don't really warrant a blanket solution such as banning them for using the word in their title or phrase in their op. Judge them on a case by case basis.

Okay, I see. You took my post so literally that you thought the message was to throw common sense out of the window.

You're the one talking about banning people over it.

I guess it can be perceived as kind of annoying, but I can also see why people do it. If anyone says anything on an internet forum (especially when dealing with favorites or top ten lists or predictions), most people who disagree will go for the jugular and try to dissuade or antagonize the person in very hostile ways. The whole opinion things seems to stem from people wanting to share their opinion (and from some I've read, even asking of other's opinions) without the unnecessary flaming. It's like an asterisk or some kind of warning so that people reading the post don't go in with a bloodlust.

In an ideal world, there wouldn't be a need to state the obvious (again and again), but this isn't la-la land. People don't want to be flamed every time they share their opinion.

Yeah, the people who use it as a measure to get more leeway to troll.

Is it really giving anyone any leeway to troll? Wasn't gamemaster banned not that long ago even though he used "speculation" in the title and "I have a controversial opinion" in the op? He even used "theory" in the op. None of it provided any leeway.

The mods demand it

Yes, people usually get their threads to live while the worst consequence is a lock, even if it's a blatant bait thread.

gamemaster has such a long history of being a pain in the ass (that's what the mod team calls him) that it could be easily made the case that the mod team was and still is too lenient on him. Someone who makes so many rubbish threads in such a short time should be hit with the banhammer a lot sooner.

How do you define a rubbish thread?

Based on false premises, providing nothing of substance, onesided, poorly written, inflammatory. Can be any one of these things or any combination of them.

You could have just linked to any of that guys threads... is the best way to describe it lol.

"The NX is being deliberately developed to fail by Nintendo Management, so Nintendo can go third party" was probably my favourite (I rate them in terms of how long I hold my hand to my face while reading the OP)

A wise man speaks when he have something important to say, a fool speaks whenever he have a chance to open his mouth.
I am just surprised that criticism is considered to be seen as bashing or hating, when there are opinions everywhere that was formed and shared in a way to be as subtle as possible to be able to pass on negative shit on shit that doesn't even concern them the slightest to begin with, just to piss people off.

If a person is not interested in the game (Or Subject at hand) It would be better for everyone including themselves if they just avoided to comment about it.

I'm the type that falls for click-bait and foolish enough to be ''Subtle'' in the way i try to tell them to piss off.

Also, Fact's > Opinions... I love how asking for some confirmation of what they say to be true, and you have to repeat the words: Provide me a source for what you claim to be true 30 times, but the conversation ends up with: My opinion.. Well it's your opinion but don't try to pass it off as a fact and we got a problem.. I don't know how many times i have been banned cause of this.. Why the fuck bother spending time on a thread that you don't care about, just to piss people off with your opinion.. just to piss us off some more when you can't provide a case or a reason on why they feel that way, why not just stay out of it? To avoid pursuing stuff you don't care about is the best way to show that you don't truly care.

But when people don't explicitly say "opinion" then everyone gets on their case about how they're jerks for stating it like it's a fact instead of their opinion.

Opinions are facts for the person stating them.

But this isn't true. When someone states their preference as fact is how circular arguments get started.
