Forums - General Discussion - Opinion: <---- This needs to stop.

I think the trend should be the reverse. When people have factual data to share they should start the thread title with Fact:

Everything else should just be assumed to be an opinion.

I'd love this, but all of a sudden you'd see people labeling their opinions as fact.

I agree. It seems like "Opinion" is being used as a shield to avoid justifying a controversial opinion. I'm all for people giving voice to different perspectives and priorities, but you need to provide some form of evidence or explanation.

Otherwise it turns into a console war or an echo chamber.

On the other side, I sympathize with Low78wagon's post. I can't tell you how many times someone has read a post of mine and issued the rejoinder "that seems more like an opinion" or "that's just a matter of personal taste." Well, duh. I can only speak for myself.

Which then makes it easier to identify the people who aren't capable of having a healthy debate so you can avoid them in the future.  It's self-policing at its finest.

The trend recently seems to be threads that are actually some kind of passive aggressive attack against another fanbase. It's getting kind of annoying.

Well said. At this point I'd welcome overt aggression. At least it would give opponents something to hold on to.

All this passive-aggressive garbage is so easy to hide behind, because one can claim ignorance. You try to wrap your hands around it and it evaporates into thin air.

It used to happen. You'd see threads like "Fact: X console has a better lineup than Y console."

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I litteraly just ran into an issue with this. Someone made a statement that was a thinly veiled dig at one of the console makers, and when I asked the poster to explain what they meant it was "Oh, Idk...It's just my opinion.".

Paper Mario Sticker Star is a bad game - that's an objective statement. Most, or everyone, agrees.
I like Paper Mario Sticker Star - that's a subjective statement. I have that opinion, regardless of what others think.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

No it should stay because people on this site and the internet in general never word opinions correctly, as slarvax said.

Threads titled "X is a bad game" when it should be titled "I think X is a bad game" or "Opinion - X is a bad game."

What is the utility in labeling threads thus? Would any person mistake a thread titled "X is a bad game" as news? Its subjectivity is self-evident.

But isn't it obvious that it's just their opinion? We don't really need them to clarify that.
